Setting Sail from Punta Sam

The sun was just beginning to rise as I arrived at Punta Sam, the air filled with the salty tang of the ocean and the promise of adventure. As a marine biologist, the ocean has always been my second home, and the opportunity to swim with whale sharks was a dream come true. The tour promised a full day of exploration, and even though the guarantee of seeing a whale shark was not absolute, the thrill of the unknown was exhilarating.

Our group was small, just ten of us, which made the experience feel intimate and personal. We were greeted by our guide, Lara, whose passion for the ocean was infectious. A Feast for the Senses

As the day drew to a close, we anchored in a serene spot to enjoy a meal on board. The ceviche and guacamole were a delightful surprise, a taste of authentic local cuisine that was far removed from the typical tourist fare. Sharing this meal with fellow adventurers, exchanging stories and laughter, was a fitting end to a day filled with wonder and discovery.

While we didn’t see the elusive whale sharks, the experience was a testament to the beauty of the ocean and the dedication of the team who guided us. Their respect for the environment and commitment to providing a genuine experience was evident in every aspect of the tour. It’s a reminder that sometimes, the journey is just as important as the destination. And as I watched the sun dip below the horizon, painting the sky in hues of orange and pink, I felt a deep sense of gratitude for the ocean and all its wonders.
