Monkey Island - Upon arrival at the airport or bus station in Puerto Maldonado, guests will be transferred to the city center office before heading to the river port. From there, a boat will take them on a forty-minute journey to the lodge. A warm welcome awaits with a refreshing local fruit juice, followed by settling into a private lodge. After a rejuvenating rest, guests will embark on a brief introductory walk around the lodge in the rainforest, led by an experienced bilingual local guide. The guide will navigate through the trail system, and after lunch, guests will take a boat to Monkey Island. Here, they can marvel at the stunning flora, including giant trees over five hundred years old, and observe birds such as toucans, orioles, Black-tailed Trogon, macaws, as well as monkeys, snakes, and butterflies. This is a chance to experience the enchanting jungle. Before dinner, there will be a caiman search along the Madre de Dios river, with a high likelihood of spotting more nocturnal animals.
Sandoval Lake Full Day Exploring - Night Activity
Lago Sandoval - Following breakfast, guests will head to the Tambopata National Reserve for a 5 km walk through the dense tropical jungle to Sandoval Lake, one of the largest in the Tambopata Reserve. The lake offers breathtaking views and abundant wildlife, making it ideal for bird enthusiasts. Visitors will likely see two or three monkey species. After enjoying a typical regional lunch, guests will take a rowing boat ride to observe a wide variety of birds and different monkey species, including shanshos, cormorants, jacanas, puma heron, howler monkeys, squirrel monkeys, black capuchin monkeys, tamarin monkeys, and sloths. With some luck, a family of giant otters (nearly two meters long) and the largest recorded alligator, over 4 meters long, may be spotted. Upon returning to the lodge, guests can relax and enjoy the facilities or take a short walk. Before dinner, a night walk will offer the chance to see insects, reptiles, nocturnal birds, and possibly other animals encountered during the hike.
Canopy and Kayaking Activity - Piranhas Fishing
RIO MADRE DE DIOS - After breakfast, a day full of fun begins at 9:30 am with a canopy walkway and kayaking adventure on the Madre de Dios river. There will be opportunities for a refreshing swim in the river, and guests will discover the wonders of the Amazon rainforest from this perspective, ensuring an adventurous time for everyone. After returning to the lodge and enjoying lunch, guests will go piranha fishing in a river within the Tambopata Reserve (catch and release), observing many birds and possibly other animals. The day concludes with dinner at the lodge and a chance to witness a spectacular sunset.
