The route continues on an unpaved road to Pashpa (3400 m), leading to the small Lake Cochapampa. Here, the local team of mule drivers awaits. Ishinca Base Camp - Climb Ishinca Peak (5530 m) - Base Camp
Huascaran National Park - The climb is steady on a well-maintained trail, progressing over the moraine to the glacier. The glacier ascent is generally gentle, except for the final 50 meters to the summit. Depending on the glacier’s condition, there may be some steep or icy sections, where a local mountain guide will assist. The return follows the same path back to Base Camp, taking 10-12 hours.

Nevado Ishinca - The ascent begins on the west face of Urus. The route is sloped, leading to a ridge and crossing large rocks on the moraine until reaching the glacier. The climb over snow and ice lasts about an hour, with the final 50 minutes to the summit being easier over the moraine. A steep descent returns to camp, taking 7 hours.

Quebrada Ishinca offers breathtaking mountain views, featuring three prominent Peruvian peaks: Urus (5,495m), Ishinca (5,530m), and Tocllaraju (6,034m). The climb up Ishinca, through the picturesque Ishinca Valley, is a favored destination for climbers aiming to reach peaks of 5,000 or 6,000 meters. However, the stunning scenery makes this climb worthwhile even if the summit isn’t reached. This trek provides captivating views of the massif, including Ishinca, Urus, Tocllaraju, Ranrapalco, the Palcarajus, and more. The iconic Tocllaraju NW ridge and the challenging Ranrapalca Normal route are part of a different climbing range and offer a complete experience.
The Quebrada Ishinca Base Camp: In addition to a spacious area for setting up tents, it presents various opportunities to explore intriguing routes, such as the Urus Este Normal route, which is shorter than the Ishinca Normal route. The ascent of the nearby Urus Central and Urus Oeste is less challenging, though these are less frequently climbed in favor of the popular Urus Este.
