Mt Maunganui Main Beach - Tour departure times are aligned with the ship’s schedule. Mount Maunganui Beach is a mere 2-minute walk from the disembarkation point at the Port of Tauranga to the tour meeting location. Mount Maunganui is celebrated as New Zealand’s top beach and seaside resort, featuring the iconic Mauao, a 232-meter high volcanic lava dome, and 22 kilometers of stunning white sandy beach. Marine Parade also showcases some of New Zealand’s most luxurious holiday homes.
-
Te Puke - Known as the kiwifruit capital of New Zealand, it is the second-largest kiwifruit supplier globally. Te Puke and its surrounding areas produce approximately 184 million trays annually. That’s a significant amount of kiwifruit! A visit to an orchard will provide an up-close look and insights into this thriving industry.
-
Redwoods, Whakarewarewa Forest - Upon arrival in Rotorua, visit the Redwood Forest, which spans over 5,600 hectares. The forest is renowned for its excellent mountain biking and walking tracks, as well as the magnificent Californian Coast Redwoods. These towering trees, along with various other species and the fresh forest air, create an invigorating atmosphere. A tasting table of local kiwifruit and honey will be set up, making it a truly spectacular place not to be missed.
-
Okere Falls Track - Conclude your Rotorua shore excursion with a brief stop at the Kaituna Rapids and Trout Pool. There might be an opportunity to see white water rafters navigating through. The Kaituna River, flowing from Lakes Rotorua and Rotoiti, stretches northwards for 45 kilometers, emptying into the Bay of Plenty. It holds significant Maori history and offers insight into the Kiwi people’s love for the outdoors.
-
Government Gardens - Located on the lake’s edge in central downtown Rotorua, the Government Gardens hold legendary and historical significance for the local Maori people, as many important battles occurred here. In the late 1800s, the Maori gifted 50 acres of this land to the crown “for the benefit of the people of the world.” Entering Rotorua’s Government Gardens through the Prince’s Gate Arches feels like stepping into an Edwardian picture book. More details will be shared on the day, with time to explore the gardens and Rachel hot spring. Unfortunately, the buildings are currently under construction, so entry is not possible.
