ARRIVAL
Altezza Travel - Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), an Altezza Travel representative will greet you and arrange your transfer to the hotel included in your package. The hotel offers all the essentials for a pleasant stay: comfortable rooms, hot water, courteous staff, a swimming pool, and Internet access. In the evening, there will be a briefing with our managers to ensure you are prepared to start the climb.
Note: Check-in begins at 2:00 PM.
HIGH-ALTITUDE DROP OFF DESTINATION AND TREKKING TO SHIRA 1 CAMP
Mount Kilimanjaro - In the morning, a guide and mountain support team will meet you at the hotel for another briefing before you travel by vehicle (approximately 3–4 hours) to the western entrance of Kilimanjaro National Park: Londorossi Gate (2,200 m). After quickly obtaining climbing permits and registering with the search and rescue service, the group will proceed to the drop-off point by off-road vehicles (reaching 3,500 meters). Here, you will witness the breathtaking views of the Shira Plateau for the first time. The route from the drop-off point to your first high-altitude camp, Shira 1, involves a slight altitude gain and is not too physically demanding. This allows you to begin the acclimatization process effectively. By the time you reach the camp, our professional mountain crew will have everything ready, including setting up tents and preparing dinner for you.
This will be your first day at this altitude, so it is highly recommended to follow these instructions from this point on:
● Avoid alcohol and caffeine consumption
● Drink over 4 liters of bottled water daily (in small, frequent amounts)
● Take a Diamox pill to help alleviate altitude sickness symptoms. Most climbers take Diamox in the morning before starting their ascent to reduce discomfort associated with altitude sickness. We recommend consulting your doctor before the trip in case of potential allergies.
At night, you may experience discomfort due to acclimatization to the high altitude: because of a reduction in your waking breathing pattern, your body receives less oxygen than during the day. Considering the altitude, you may start feeling unwell and have a headache. Pay attention to your body and inform your guide if you experience any symptoms of altitude sickness.
Change in Elevation: Lemosho Glades (3,500 m) — Shira 1 Camp (3,505 m)
Hiking distance: 5 km
Hiking time: 1–2 hours
TREKKING FROM SHIRA 1 CAMP TO SHIRA 2 CAMP
Mount Kilimanjaro - Departing from Shira 1 Camp (3,505 m), enjoy a light trek towards the second high-altitude camp: Shira 2 Camp (3,900 m). This trek is not difficult, allowing you to appreciate the stunning views of Africa and the unique flora of Kilimanjaro and the surrounding area. Shira 2 Camp is the best spot on the trip to see Mount Meru (the fifth summit of Africa), weather permitting. Upon arrival at the camp, you will have lunch, and after a two-hour rest, everyone will complete an acclimatization hike towards Lava Tower Camp, featuring a 200-meter altitude gain.
Note: The acclimatization hike is an easy trek with a slight altitude gain designed to speed up the acclimatization process. Taking these hikes seriously is crucial as they increase your chances of successfully summiting Kilimanjaro and protect you from altitude sickness.

TREKKING FROM SHIRA 2 CAMP TO THE LAVA TOWER AND DESCENT TO BARRANCO CAMP
Mount Kilimanjaro - After breakfast, depart from Shira 2 Camp (3,900 m) and head to the key point of the route: Lava Tower (4,630 m). This section involves numerous ascents and descents, ending at a camp over 4,600 meters. It may be challenging, and you might feel some discomfort, but spending at least 1–2 hours here is essential for successful acclimatization, so this is where lunch will be.
Then, descend to Barranco Camp (3,960 m), where you can see the famous Barranco Wall, impressive in both size and steepness! The next day, you will climb it, but don’t worry: it features a straightforward hiking trail.
Note: If any participants feel unwell, the group may skip the Lava Tower and adjust the route, following the porters’ road instead. In this case, you will not reach an altitude of 4,630 meters, only going up to a maximum of 4,400 meters.
Change in Elevation: Shira 2 Camp (3,900 m) — Lava Tower (4,630 m) — Barranco Camp (3,960 m)

TREKKING FROM BARRANCO CAMP TO KARANGA CAMP
Mount Kilimanjaro - Start the day early with breakfast and begin summiting Barranco Wall (it’s recommended to leave the camp early to avoid crowds from other groups). Climbing the gorge wall is not difficult and takes about an hour. After the climb, you can rest and take photos in front of the Kibo volcano.
Then, embark on a more challenging hike to Karanga Camp, which includes several ascents and descents along the route, but don’t worry: our guides are skilled at setting an optimal pace for the group. Upon reaching the camp, you will be served a warm lunch. After a couple of hours, you will complete an acclimatization hike towards Barafu Camp with a 200-meter altitude gain, then descend back to the camp.

TREKKING FROM KARANGA CAMP TO BARAFU CAMP
Mount Kilimanjaro - After breakfast, begin your journey to Barafu Summit Camp (4,640 m), the starting point for a night ascent to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m). Our team will have set up the camp for you in advance, including tents and sleeping bags, so you can relax. After regaining strength, complete an acclimatization hike towards the intermediate Kosovo Summit Camp (4,800 m) and then return to Barafu Camp, where a hot dinner will be served. It’s best to spend the rest of the day resting and sleeping before the night ascent.

ASCENT TO UHURU PEAK AND DESCENT TO MILLENNIUM CAMP
Mount Kilimanjaro - Depart from Barafu Camp (4,640 m) at night to begin the ascent of Kilimanjaro: Uhuru Peak (5,895 m). Technically, the climb is relatively straightforward; however, the high altitude presents the greatest challenge. Each pair of climbers will have a personal guide throughout the ascent to monitor your physical and mental conditions. After successfully reaching Uhuru Peak, you can descend to the nearest glacier if desired. Then, return to Barafu Camp and, after a 2-hour rest, continue your descent to Millennium Camp (3,820 m).
Note: Remember that 90% of all accidents occur during the descent, including all broken arms and legs. Please pay attention to your feet, as there is a high risk of damaging your toenails.

DESCENT FROM MILLENNIUM CAMP TO MWEKA GATE
Mount Kilimanjaro - The camp is located in a tropical rainforest. Upon waking, you will feel relief from the reduced altitude and the satisfaction of reaching the summit. After a warm breakfast, head to the park’s exit: Mweka Gate (1,640 m). After your descent, the entire group will gather to congratulate you, followed by an opportunity to share your thoughts on the climb in the guestbook. Finally, you will receive your commemorative certificates at our office and be provided with a transfer back to the hotel.
