Oviedo
Santa Maria del Naranco - The Catholic temples of Santa María del Naranco and San Miguel de Lillo are situated on the southern slopes of Mount Naranco in Oviedo, approximately four kilometers from the city center.
Initially, Santa María was not intended to be a church but served as the Aula Regia of the palace complex commissioned by King Ramiro I on the outskirts of the capital in 842. Its artistic style is known as “ramirense,” part of the Asturian pre-Romanesque.
Catedral de San Salvador de Oviedo - The Holy Metropolitan Cathedral Basilica of San Salvador de Oviedo is a Gothic-style cathedral located in Oviedo (Principality of Asturias, Spain). It is also referred to as Sancta Ovetensis, highlighting the quality and quantity of the relics it houses.
Construction began at the end of the 13th century for the chapter house and the cloister, continuing for three centuries until the tower was completed in the mid-16th century. An ambulatory was added in the 17th century, along with various chapels attached to the side naves.
Museo de Bellas Artes de Asturias - Inaugurated on May 19, 1980, from the art collection of the former Provincial Council of Oviedo, it now operates under the Department of Culture of the Principality of Asturias, funded by the Principality and the City Council of Oviedo.
The Museum currently boasts a collection of nearly 15,000 works, including approximately 1,500 paintings, sculptures, drawings, engravings, and industrial arts (around 4,000 pieces), although it has a permanent exhibition of 800. It features paintings by Spanish artists, particularly Asturians, and foreign artists, with Italian and Flemish paintings standing out, as well as sculptures, photographs, and glass and earthenware objects. In 2017, the collection was significantly enriched with 33 important works donated by Plácido Arango Arias.
San Francisco Park - Campo de San Francisco is an urban park located in the heart of Oviedo (Spain). It is one of the city’s most iconic places and one of the largest urban parks in Asturias.
Originating from the orchards of the former Convent of San Francisco, it features several walks and avenues: Paseo de los Álamos, Paseo del Bombé, Paseo de José Cuesta, Italia Avenue, or Germany Avenue, among others. It includes a pond and numerous well-known monuments such as the statue of Mafalda or José Tartiere.
Teatro Campoamor - The Campoamor Theater is Oviedo’s opera house, established in 1892, and is renowned for hosting events like the Princess of Asturias Awards ceremony.
Plaza del Fontan - El Fontán is now a rectangular street and square located in Oviedo’s old town, Principality of Asturias (Spain). Its name derives from the spring or fountain that filled the original lagoon in that area. Once used as a comedy corral, it is now part of the Fontán market and hospitality area. Adjacent to it is the covered market of El Fontán, dating back to 1885.
Casco Antiguo - This is the center of Oviedo’s old town. With a single tower, it rises above the basilica built by order of Alfonso II, “El Casto.” The first altar to San Salvador was consecrated on October 13, 821, 1,200 years ago. Although most of the basilica dates from the 15th century due to numerous reconstructions, it showcases various artistic styles, with flamboyant Gothic predominating.
Monte Naranco - Experiencing Oviedo from the top of Mount Naranco is truly remarkable. This rounded hill, 636 meters high and covering more than 30,000 square meters of open and natural space, crowns the Asturian capital and offers its best panoramic view.
Calle Uria - Uría Street is the main commercial artery of Oviedo, the capital of Asturias. It is named after the politician José Francisco Uría y Riego.
Onís Canjas
Puente Romano - The medieval bridge of Cangas de Onís, or puentón, is a structure spanning the Sella River as it passes through Cangas de Onís, separating the councils of Cangas de Onís and Parres, with half belonging to each council. Its image is closely associated with the town of Cangas de Onís.
El Puentón is one of Asturias’ symbols. It is part of the shield of Cangas de Onís, along with the cross on the inverted crescent that commemorates the victory over the Muslims in the battle of Covadonga and the legend Minima urbium, maxima sedium (minimum city, maximum seat).
In 1931, it was declared a historic artistic monument. Many riverside residents of the Sella River area often go salmon fishing in its vicinity.
Basilica de Santa Maria la Real de Covadonga - Known as Santa Cueva or the sanctuary of Covadonga, it features a waterfall or stream forming a pool at its base. Nearby is the fountain of the Siete Caños or “fountain of Marriage,” as popular belief holds that young women who drink “without breathing” from its water marry within a year. As the couplet goes: “The Virgin of Covadonga/ has a very clear fountain;/ the girl who drinks from it/ gets married within the year.” On either side of the road, guarding the sanctuary’s entrance, are two large lions sculpted in Carrara marble, exact replicas of others by Pompeio Marchesi.
The altar is adorned with images related to the battle of Covadonga, and nearby are the tombs of Don Pelayo and his wife Gauiosa, as well as those of his son-in-law Alfonso I and Hermelinda.

The lakes of Covadonga are two small glacial lakes, Enol and Ercina, located in the Asturian part of the Picos de Europa national park, in the western massif of the mountain chain. There is a third lake, Bricial, which only contains water during the thaw but is also part of the group.
Picos de Europa - At the western end of the majestic Picos de Europa National Park are the most renowned lakes in Asturias and the most popular in the Iberian Peninsula: the lakes of Covadonga.
These glacial aquifer formations are set in a captivating natural environment that contrasts with the rugged mountains surrounding them. This visually stunning landscape reaffirms that Asturias is a Natural Paradise.
Gijon
Laboral Ciudad de la Cultura - The Gijón Labor University is a building located in the parish of Cabueñes in the council of Gijón. Constructed between 1948 and 1957, it served as the headquarters of a Francoist institution aimed at educating workers’ children until the 1980s.
Playa de San Lorenzo - San Lorenzo beach is situated in the heart of Gijón. With a length of 1.5 km and a shell shape, it is likely one of the most famous beaches in Asturias.
Mirador de La Providencia - This viewpoint, shaped like a ship, is the perfect spot to capture a photograph and immortalize the sunset. Previously, it was a shooting platform where ammunition, not flashes, was fired by Spanish Army soldiers. However, ten years ago, the lands of Alto de La Providencia transitioned from military use to public access under the name Parque del Cabo San Lorenzo, where now only kites soar.
Museu del Pueblu d’Asturies - The Museo del Pueblo de Asturias, also known simply as Pueblo de Asturias, is a Spanish museum dedicated to preserving and sharing the memory of the Asturian people. Its collections include extensive ethnography, photography, documentation, and musical instruments.
Barrio de Cimadevilla - Cimadevilla is a neighborhood in the central district of Gijón, Asturias. It is the city’s oldest area, with Roman origins, and retains the aesthetic of a 19th-century fishing district.
Lastres, Colunga, Cudillero
Lastres - Nestled between the sea and the mountains, it is easy to see why Llastres, in the municipality of Colunga, is considered one of Spain’s most beautiful towns, a title it officially holds and truly deserves.
This fishing village, once engaged in whaling and defending against potential coastal invasions, was honored as an Exemplary Village of Asturias, an award granted by the Princess of Asturias Foundation in 2010. The Foundation highlighted its unique adaptation to the terrain and the resilience of its inhabitants.
Museo Jurasico de Asturias (MUJA) - The Jurassic Museum of Asturias (MUJA) is a small Spanish paleontological museum located on the coastal plain of San Telmo, between the Asturian towns of Colunga and Lastres, where dinosaur remains from 150 million years ago, during the late Jurassic, have been discovered.
Shaped like a large dinosaur footprint, the Museum houses one of the world’s most comprehensive and educational displays on these fascinating reptiles.
With time as a central theme, MUJA explores life on Earth from its beginnings to the emergence of humans, offering extensive insights into various aspects of dinosaur life.
Cudillero - It is one of the most picturesque towns in Asturias (and Spain). Its viewpoints, colorful houses, port, and culinary specialties like pixuetín or curadillo make this charming fishing village an ideal destination for a getaway.
