We will visit Serra de Sintra or Mons Lunae as the Romans used to say. At Monte da Lua, mysticism persists to this day. We’ll start with a guided tour of an authentic fairytale palace, Palace of Pena. Then, we will explore the narrow streets of vila de Sintra and give you free time to have lunch and try the typical sweets of the region (travesseiro) in the famous pastry shop “Piriquita”. After lunch, we’ll head to Quinta da Regaleira where we’ll take a guided tour of the Initiatic Well and learn about the history behind its exotic gardens, enigmatic caves and Masonic architecture. We will cross the mountain, passing through the villages around it, to reach Cabo da Roca, the westernmost point of continental Europe.

A Day at Sintra - Ask for Renata as your tour guide. Not only will you learn about Portuguese history, you will learn how to take better photos with your iPhone! Her knowledge & enthusiasm surpassed her energy & she was energetic! She was more than helpful.

Best tour of Sintra ever! - This was an absolutely fantastic tour of Sintra. Cascais Tours has a real gem in Renata! One of the best tours and tour guides we have had in over 25 years of travel. Renata made sure to not only give us the history and information about all of the key places we visited but pointed out so many little details and facts that all the other tour guides pass by on. Her energy, experience and knowledge, along with her expert picture taking skills made for the most memorable visit to Sintra. We will treasure this experience always.

A fantastic day within easy distance of Lisbon! - This is wonderful tour with many surprising and magical little moments from gardens, palaces, lighthouses, and the town of Sintra itself. Guide Renata was absolutely wonderful -- knowledgeble, sharing, good food recommendations, and just a great person to be around. She made the day special. Highly recommend.

Magical Sintra Adventure - Really amazing tour, so glad we booked. Renata was a brilliant guide and incredibly knowledgeable, she took great pictures and gave really good recommendations for local cuisine in Sintra and in Lisbon. We got to the palaces early so avoided the majority of the crowds. Don’t hesitate to book you’ll have a fab day!

A Manic, Magical Day in Sintra – Thanks to Renata! - Renata brought Sintra to life with her deep knowledge of its history, legends, and secrets. She led us with passion and precision, never missing a beat, and somehow made the complex history feel like an epic tale unfolding just for us.
But what really set her apart was how much she cared. She looked after the group like we were old friends, making sure everyone was comfortable, engaged, and, of course, well-fed. Her recommendation for a traditional Portuguese restaurant was spot-on — easily one of the best meals of our trip.
We had a fantastic tour from start to finish, but Renata? She’s in a league of her own. If you're heading to Sintra, trust me — you want Renata leading the way.

A MUST SEE tour, but not good for those with mobility impairments. Renata was fabulous! - Once again we prove the value of a knowledgeable local guide! Renata (pronounce the R as an H) knows her stuff- and maintains a pleasant demeanor and nonstop commentary throughout a long day. Plus, she knows when and where to arrive to avoid crowds and delays. Thank God I didn’t have to drive on those narrow hilly windy streets!
There is so much to see on this 2-palace tour, that a guide is a must when you have a limited time. And Pena Palace is a MUST SEE! I’ve wanted to visit ever since it came up as my Microsoft Windows background- and this palace does not disappoint!! You could spend DAYS here, but a guide helps you see and learn the most important parts during your limited time. Deep knowledge of Portuguese royalty and the buildings leads to a better experience- just ask her about the stained glass in the chapel!
Regaleira was more interesting than I expected. I knew about the “well” - I thought of it as “the well of souls “ - but there is so much MORE. Again, Renata helped us get the most from the experience by suggesting and even staging and taking photos in the best spots both above and especially below ground. Plus her thorough knowledge of Dante’s Divine Comedy allows for a proper tie-in to Masonic ritual and purpose behind the construction of this unique wonder.
While it was nice to finish with a visit to Cabo da Roca - the westernmost point in continental Europe- and return with a drive along the coast, it was difficult to stay alert and focused after such a long day climbing hills and stairs, but that’s just part of the itinerary, and not a reflection on the tour guide. Which brings me to a final point- this tour requires LOTS OF CLIMBING, and is not a good choice for those with mobility issues. Pena palace has a shuttle bus that can take guests up the hill, but that still leaves lots of stairs and hill climbing. And Regaleira is all about the 9 levels of Dante’s Hell, Purgatory, and Heaven- so LOTS of stairs, and there are no shuttles on the way to Heaven. So while I highly recommend this tour, it’s best suited to inquisitive minds who also count steps and floors climbed on their fitbits.

Well-planned tour with an amazing guide! - This is a well-planned tour which lets you experience the best of Sintra and Cape Roca in one day.
Our guide, Renata, was very knowledgeable, cheerful, and attentive. She always made sure that everyone on the tour was having a good time. She also shared various tips for enjoying the trip, including how to take the best photos at the bottom of a deep well.
I did a lot of research on a day trip to those histrionic places and I think I made the best choice. I highly recommend this tour, and you’ll be lucky if you get Renata as your guide!

Guia Renata made the day even better - What an amazing day to have Renata as your guide. Nice, smart and very familiar with Sintra, Cascais and Portugal as a whole. Over almost 9h of tour, she shared many curiosities and detailed explanations that you don’t even see the time pass. In addition, she is an excellent driver, excellent photographer, skilled bilingual guide and very proactive in taking good photos while the tour takes place. It was worth every euro invested and it was a grateful surprise to count with her on our trip! Thank you!
