The Call of the Wild: Setting Out on the Journey

As the first rays of dawn broke over Kigali, I found myself filled with a sense of anticipation and excitement. The journey to Volcanoes National Park was about to begin, and with it, the promise of an encounter with the majestic mountain gorillas of Rwanda. The drive from Kigali to Musanze was a scenic delight, with rolling hills and lush landscapes painting a picture of Rwanda’s natural beauty. Our guide, a local expert, shared stories of the land and its people, setting the stage for the adventure that lay ahead.

Upon arrival at the RDB headquarters in Kinigi, the air was thick with excitement. Fellow travelers gathered for the briefing, a crucial part of the experience that emphasized respect and safety in the presence of these gentle giants. The rangers, with their wealth of knowledge and passion for conservation, assigned us to a gorilla family based on our fitness levels. This thoughtful consideration ensured that everyone could enjoy the trek, regardless of their physical condition.
