The day begins with a 90km drive (about 1.5 hours) from Bishkek to Kegety Gorge, part of the Kyrgyz Ala Too Mountain Range. This area is renowned as one of the Silk Road’s most beautiful spots, thanks to its numerous streams, alpine meadows, and forests.
Upon arrival, the trek to Kol Tor Lake spans approximately 7.5km (3-4 hours), with an elevation gain of 900 meters. The hike unveils a picturesque valley with views of Kol Tor Lake, its turquoise glacial waters contrasting with the lush green meadows of coniferous forest, occasionally interrupted by herds of cows.
After a light snack, the descent takes about 2 hours for the 7.5km return. A drive back follows.
Remember to bring a hat and sturdy trekking boots. Other useful items include a windbreaker, walking sticks, a water flask, sunglasses, a camera, and sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher.
