- Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park - The name ‘Trossachs’ is derived from the Gaelic term meaning ‘the bristly country’. This area, with its dense forests, cascading waterfalls, and serene lochs, was once the domain of Scotland’s infamous outlaw Rob Roy MacGregor. Known as a bandit and soldier, he became a Scottish folk hero, immortalized in the film Rob Roy and the historical novel by Sir Walter Scott, who was inspired by this wild, romantic landscape to write his epic poem Lady of the Lake.
- Callander - Enjoy a lunch break in the lively tourist town of Callander. Filled with teashops and souvenir shops, Callander is often referred to as ‘the gateway to the Highlands’.
- Stirling Castle - Visit the magnificent Stirling Castle, one of the best-preserved Renaissance buildings in the country, restored to its original splendor. Walk in the footsteps of Scotland’s Stuart Kings, Mary, Queen of Scots, and Bonnie Prince Charlie.
There is ample time for a relaxed visit to the castle to delve into significant moments in Scotland’s long, turbulent history. No Scottish castle would be complete without witnessing historic battles. Nearby are the sites of the Battle of Stirling Bridge, where William Wallace (of Braveheart fame) defeated a much larger English army in 1297, and Bannockburn, where Robert the Bruce achieved a similar victory in 1314.
