- Rest and be Thankful - A stop is made for photos at the ‘Rest and Be Thankful’, a famous Scottish viewpoint named after the words carved in stone by the soldiers who constructed the original military road in 1753.
- Inveraray - Inveraray is among Scotland’s most photographed towns. Founded in 1745 by the 3rd Duke of Argyll, leader of the influential Clan Campbell, Inveraray is a prime example of an 18th-century planned town, featuring its unique white-washed Georgian architecture.
Visitors can explore the town and its shops or visit one of the attractions listed below.
(Please note this stop may be shortened to 60 minutes in winter to reduce the impact of the early sunset later in the tour.)
-
Inveraray Castle - Visitors have the option to explore Inveraray Castle, the residence of the Duke of Argyll and his family (tickets available for purchase on the day). Enjoy the fresh Highland air while strolling through the parkland, woodland, and gardens, which are vibrant with azaleas and rhododendrons that thrive in Argyll during the summer. (Please note the castle is open from April to October, Thursday to Monday, and closed every Tuesday and Wednesday.)
-
Inveraray Jail - Alternatively, visitors can choose to explore Inveraray Jail, one of Scotland’s top attractions. This 19th-century living museum offers a glimpse into what life was like behind bars (tickets available for purchase on the day).
-
Kilchurn Castle - A stop is made for photographs of the impressive Kilchurn Castle, majestically situated at the head of Loch Awe.
-
Oban - Once a small fishing village, Oban is now known as the ‘Gateway to the Isles’ and the ‘seafood capital’ of Scotland. Today, the port serves as the main ferry departure point for the Isle of Mull and the Inner and Outer Hebrides. Seafood enthusiasts travel from afar to enjoy the fresh, daily catches in the town’s restaurants, and visitors can indulge in this as well, or choose from classic Scottish dishes or international flavors.
-
Castle Stalker - Castle Stalker is one of Scotland’s most photographed fortresses, perched on its own tidal islet in Loch Laich. The driver-guide will direct visitors to the viewpoint for capturing photos.
-
Glencoe - The dramatic mountains of Glencoe will envelop visitors as they enter a glen of breathtaking natural beauty. It’s easy to imagine one of Scotland’s most infamous events, the 1692 Glencoe massacre, when Campbell-led Government soldiers attacked the MacDonald clan by night. A stop will be made here to appreciate the views and take photographs.
-
Ardlui - The final stop of the evening is in the heart of the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park, where visitors can enjoy an early evening refreshment before returning to Glasgow.
