Interacting with Andes wildlife - Amazing Experience. We could see and interact with many snimals and birds native to peru and Andes including condors, puma, llama, alpaccas. The guide explained how these birds and animals are rescued during poaching attempts. They are then treated and released in the wild if possible.

- Top family experience in Cuzco!! We went with our two children (7 &10) and got to see up close condors, eagles, pumas, the "oso de anteojos' known in the UK as Paddington bear! monkeys, turtles, lamas, vicuñas, tucan, parrots, and more! The guides were super knowledgeable and friendly. We paid for the animal encounter which allowed us to feed the animals. The proceeds go towards the rehabilitation of the animals and to re-introduce them into the wild. It was interesting to hear the stories of how the animals were rescued and how they are recovering.

Animal Sanctuary - What an excellent place for these animals. The sanctuary takes good care of the animals and you can tell the animals are very comfortable with their caretakers. The sanctuary helps give these animals a safe place to heal and get well with hopes of returning to the wild.

A truly inspiring experience - Visiting the Cochahiasi Animal Sanctuary was one of the most memorable experiences of our trip to Peru. Nestled in a peaceful setting, this sanctuary is a haven for animals rescued from abuse, neglect, and illegal trafficking. The passion and dedication of the team are evident from the moment you arrive. What sets Cochahiasi apart is its commitment not only to care but also to reintroduce animals back into the wild whenever possible. They work tirelessly to rehabilitate animals, preparing them for a second chance at life in their natural habitats. For those who cannot be released, the sanctuary offers lifelong care in a safe and enriching environment. The tour was incredibly insightful. Every animal has a name, a story, and a personality — and you get to learn them all. Hearing about their journeys and seeing the impact the sanctuary has made was both heartbreaking and uplifting. What makes the experience even more meaningful is knowing that your entrance fee and any donations go directly toward supporting the animals and the sanctuary’s incredible conservation work. It’s a place where your visit truly makes a difference. If you’re looking to connect with nature, support a worthy cause, and witness the resilience of animals firsthand, I can’t recommend Cochahiasi Animal Sanctuary enough.

Highly Recommend - Joseph took us through the entire sanctuary! He knows the animals so well and their primary goal is always reintroduction when possible. We were so impressed with the care these special animals receive! Cannot recommend enough! Your entrance fees go directly towards feeding, bring extra soles for donation, they are so appreciative.

The closest you're likely to get to a condor - Really helpful and informative staff, had a quick tour, then time to look around by ourselves. Amazing to see (and in some cases touch!) these birds and animals up close and see the care the staff take with them. An easy Uber drive there and back from Cusco.

Unique animals, ethics unknown - We chose to come here to see the wildlife native to Peru we wouldn’t see otherwise like the pumas, condors, and Andean bears. It was really neat to see these animals. However, the tour we received at 3:30p (1.5 hrs before close) felt like we came at 4:59. It was only about 10 min and based on what other people are saying including our taxi driver, that is not normal. Feel a little cheated. We walked back to the beginning and looked at what animals we could for a few minutes longer. We paid a taxi to drive 35 min there, wait for up to an hour and a half and drive 35 min back because of the recommendation of our hotel concierge, reviews, and taxi company recommendation. We were there for maybe 30 min because of this shortened time, we paid a lot of money and spent more time in the car and for the taxi than at the sanctuary. I will say that the guide explained that the majority of the animals at least right now, are not getting released into the wild for various reasons that make sense. So I think they have helped at least a portion of the animals in a legit manner and are protecting them. The logistics behind the program and protection and veterinary care weren’t described. But again, you likely won’t see these animals anywhere else.

Pass your way, it’s really not worth it! No point. - Very disappointing animals are locked in small spaces, the premises are poorly maintained and dirty. It is not a sanctuary at all, but rather the continuity of the abuse that animals had suffered before.
