• Elafonissi Beach - Elafonisi is a narrow strip of land that often splits into two parts by water, making it appear as a separate island. It is a protected area under the “Natura 2000” network. The island is covered with dunes, sand lilies, and junipers (similar to cedar trees). It serves as a nesting ground for the endangered Caretta-Caretta turtles and several rare animals, and it is strictly prohibited to remove any plants or animals from the area. The beach features exotic white sand and turquoise waters, reminiscent of the Caribbean, on both sides of the peninsula. In many spots, the sand has a pinkish hue due to countless broken shells. Near the point where the peninsula splits, the water is less than 1 meter deep, creating a small lagoon that is perfect for children. You can easily wade through the shallow lagoon to reach the “island” while carrying your belongings.
