Not the experience we paid for - My wife and I booked Braulio for his Bri Bri chocolate experience, which was great. He told us does several other tours of the area, and to book him if we were interested. We booked him for a Gondoca-Manzanillo hike, which had problems of its own but we also booked him for a Cahuita hike. After we booked him, he constantly tried to contact us to change the date or time. It was painfully clear that he overbooked and chose us to be the booking that was a problem for him to fulfill. We explained to him that we make several non-refundable reservations around the time slot he had available according to TripAdvisor. In our opinion, the professional and respectful thing to do if he didn’t have the time for us, would have been to cancel and refund our booking. Instead, he wanted our money without providing the service. He continued to act like our booking was still on going to happen, and then twenty minutes before he was to pick us up he lied to us and told us he had “mechanical” issues and had somebody else on their way to pick us up. The driver who picked us up had a DISGUSTING vehicle. I don’t know if the inside of her vehicle was covered in mud or blood splatters or feces but it was unnerving. She drove us, driving like an ABSOLUTE MANAIAC, to the entrance Cahuita NP where we learned for the first time we had a tour guide we didn’t know and didn’t hire. When we entered the park, he tried to get us to pay for our entry, even though park entry was included in the fees we had already paid Braulio. He was clearly a very inexperienced guide as the only things he pointed out to us were an almond tree and a few plants. The sloth and few monkeys he pointed out to us were already being shown to other hikers by other guides. He was clearly just piggybacking off of other guides. Then after two hours of a “3-4 hour tour” he abandoned us in the middle of the park. We were stranded in the area for two hours, alone, and with no money as everything in the tour was supposedly inclusive. We learned and saw nothing new from this “guided” hike, we paid $140 for the same thing we could’ve got from driving ourselves to the park and paying the $5 entry. We also did not get to go to the waterfall promised in this booking, and no refund was offered. The point of this review is to say this: book Braulio at your own risk. When he bothers to fulfill his commitments, he is a good tour guide. However, he is very shady and cares more about stealing money from tourists then he does about providing the experiences his bookings claim.
