A Journey Through Time: The Omaka Aviation Heritage Centre
On November 3rd, as the morning chill gives way to a crisp, clear afternoon, it’s time to delve into the rich history of aviation at the Omaka Aviation Heritage Centre. This world-class museum offers a captivating look at the stories of WWI and WWII through its meticulously curated exhibitions.
Begin your visit with the “Knights of the Sky” exhibition, featuring Sir Peter Jackson’s collection of WWI aircraft and artifacts. The immersive dioramas, crafted by the talented teams at WingNut Films and Weta Workshop, transport you back in time, offering a unique perspective on the Great War. As one visitor shared on June 24, 2024:
Simply brilliant - The museum offers so much more than you might expect from the outside. Initially, we thought the entry fee was a little steep, but then we went through. Rather than just displaying a good range of planes and other aviation artefacts (which was good), the displays are so much more. Movie sets have been created, to generate a realistic atmosphere.
The “Dangerous Skies” exhibition continues the journey, highlighting the daring tales of WWII. From the British Isles to the jungles of Southeast Asia, the stories of valor and tragedy unfold before your eyes. The exhibition also pays tribute to the women who played crucial roles during the war, offering a comprehensive and thought-provoking experience.
