Embrace the Overcast: Cozy Indoor Adventures in Ballintoy

As the clouds roll in and the winds pick up, Ballintoy transforms into a haven for those seeking cozy indoor escapes. This quaint Northern Irish village, nestled along the rugged Antrim Coast, offers a unique blend of history, culture, and cinematic allure. With the weather forecast predicting overcast skies and gusty winds, it’s the perfect time to explore Ballintoy’s indoor treasures.

Start your weekend with a Game of Thrones Tour adventure. This private tour, led by Richard the Wildling, offers an immersive experience into the world of Westeros. As a former extra on the show, Richard provides insider knowledge and behind-the-scenes stories that bring the Game of Thrones universe to life. The tour includes visits to iconic filming locations such as Ballintoy Harbour, the real Iron Islands, and the Dark Hedges, known as the King’s Road. With the tour available from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, you can spend the morning exploring these legendary sites while staying warm and dry in the comfort of a private car.

“An Amazing Game of Thrones Tour - Do this tour. It was so cool. Not only do you get to see Game of Thrones shooting locations, but you also get to see lovely Ireland. Richard was a delight. It was extra special to get insight from an extra on the show. This made our day stress free and wonderful. We definitely want to come back and do the Winterfell trek. We did the Iron Islands route this time.” - Reviewed on 2024-10-06

Savor the Flavors: Culinary Delights and Distillery Visits

After a morning of exploring the mythical landscapes of Westeros, it’s time to indulge in the culinary delights of Ballintoy. The high humidity and cool temperatures make it an ideal day to warm up with a hearty meal and a taste of local spirits. Head over to the Bushmills Distillery, a stop on the Causeway Coastal Tour, where you can explore the bar and gift shop. Sample some of the finest Irish whiskey and learn about the distillation process that has been perfected over centuries.

For lunch, venture into the nearby town of Portrush, where you’ll find a variety of local eateries offering everything from traditional Irish fare to modern culinary creations. The Causeway Coastal Tour provides ample time to explore Portrush’s charming streets and enjoy a leisurely meal before continuing your journey along the stunning Antrim Coast.

“Memorable Tour of the Causeway Coast - On a recent cruise around Ireland I wanted to visit places that were important to my family and its history so I arranged for this private tour of the Causeway Coast and Derry. Aidan was our driver and guide and was keen to take us wherever we wanted to go. We visited Giants Causeway, a lookout so that we could see the Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge and Portrush, where I was able to visit the grave of a Great Aunt and the house where she had lived. He found us a good place to have lunch in Portrush and took us on a beautiful scenic ride back towards Derry with a brief tour of Derry, including a walk along the “Derry Wall” and stories about the Troubles, before getting us back to our ship right on time. He was informative, kind and a great driver whose only interest seemed to be in giving us a great day, which was fully accomplished.” - Reviewed on 2024-09-16

For those looking to continue their exploration, the Causeway Coastal Tour offers a chance to visit the Giant’s Causeway, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its unique hexagonal basalt columns. While the weather may not be ideal for outdoor activities, the dramatic scenery and rich history of the area make it a must-see destination.
