Highlights
  • Kalabaka - Catch the bus of 08:00 am to Kalambaka in the morning from opposite the Athens Railway Station and enjoy a trip that will give you the chance to admire the beauty of the countryside. Arrive around 12:30 pm in Kalambaka, a small town built at the foot of the majestic grey rocks, and crowded by the Meteora Monasteries.
  • Meteora - Arriving in Kalambaka, our English speaking expert escort will be waiting you holding a signboard with your name on it and will transfer you to the Meteora Monasteries. For almost 5 hours you will have the time to explore two Monasteries as well as the hermit caves of Badovas. Meteora is included in the UNESCO world heritage monument list. The monasteries are perched on top of towers of sandstone, which for centuries provided totally inaccessible retreats for the monks. The most visited Monastery is the Holy Monastery of Great Meteoron, which is the largest of the monasteries located at Meteora. It was erected in the mid-14th century and was the subject of restoration and embellishment projects in 1483 and 1552. The building serves as the main museum for tourists. The Katholikon (main church), consecrated in honour of the Transfiguration of Jesus was erected in the middle of 14th century and 1387/88 and decorated in 1483 and 1552.
  • Kalabaka - At the end of the day, our expert escort will transfer you back to Kalambaka, where you will have the time to stroll around and have a light lunch (not included). At 5:35 p.m. the bus departs from Kalambaka, and arrives at 9:58 p.m back to Athens.

One of the best days you’ll have in Greece - Culturally significant sites amidst amazing scenery - the best of both worlds. My wife and I were simply astounded. In addition, Mary, our guide, grew up in the area before it had become a major tourist draw and provided a detailed insight into the way life used to be; her knowledge on the entire history of the region made it feel like we were on a private tour. We also very much appreciated her humor and personal antidotes. She deserves 10 stars.

Fantastic tour - The lunch was very good! Our tour guide for the monasteries was fantastic! He was very knowledgeable and funny! It was a lot less walking than I expected. I packed two liters of water plus they gave us a couple small bottles of water. And there are places to buy drinks. So my recommendation is to not pack so much water. Also I wish we had an extra day so we could have done the two day meteora tour. Would definitely recommend!

Meteora - I have rated the trip for 4 stars because of the driver. The trip in one way took more than 3 hours and the driver were shouting on the phone during the whole back trip. Please tell them that the passangers want to enjoy silence maybe. Anyway the canadian turist guide was very friendly and properly informed us about everything. Maybe we should have more time in the Monastries because time limit was very strict. Foods was also totally overprized in the restaurants.

Beautiful sites but not properly functioning air conditioners on the buses! - The Monasteries were incredible sites and I enjoyed the lunch at the village, but the air conditioner of the bus was horrible!!! The whole trip which was 4 hours one way felt like being in a sauna!! They should make sure that the air conditioners on this tourist buses work properly, since this is your business. The weather in summer in Greece is extremely hot and humid and having to suffer from the heat on the bus, takes away the pleasure from your experience!!! Both buses that we took were hot and one more than the other! :(
