authentic and full of charm - We decided to blend two tours into one incredible day, and I’m so glad we did. A big thank you to the Explore Egypt Tours team for making it seamless! Our guide and driver, Esmail, met us right on time. He was not only welcoming and knowledgeable but also shared fascinating insights, not just about Egyptian cuisine, but everyday life in Egypt as well.
The food stops were authentic and full of charm, little hidden gems we’d never have discovered on our own. And trust me, you won’t leave hungry! One of the highlights was exploring a vibrant local bazaar afterward, where we could wander, shop, and soak in the atmosphere at our own pace.
Special thanks to our consultant for organizing everything so efficiently and at the last minute. We felt safe, cared for, and completely at ease throughout the day. I truly appreciated how everything on my bucket list was thoughtfully included, especially the traditional Egyptian breakfast it was delicious and made me feel like a true local. Safe to say, that dish is going to be a must every time I come back to Egypt! 😍
Highly recommend this experience for anyone wanting a genuine taste of Egypt with top-tier guidance.

Fantastico food tour - I and my husband had a wonderful experience on a food tour through Cairo’s historic Khan El Khalili Bazaar. Our guide, Ismail, was knowledgeable, passionate, and made the journey truly memorable. We enjoyed a delicious variety of Egyptian dishes—from baladi bread and koshari to falafel and sweet basbousa.
The tour also included time to explore the market’s vibrant shops, filled with spices, handmade crafts, and traditional treasures. The lively atmosphere made shopping a joy.
Thank you, Ismail, for your warm hospitality and excellent guidance. I highly recommend this tour for anyone looking to taste and experience the real Cairo

Great intro to Cairo - Real Cairo Food Experience was a great introduction to Egypt. We started with the best ever falafel and other dishes followed later with Koshery and rice pudding, which could be called Egyptian comfort food. We also sampled cane juice. Throughout the tour Mahmoud filled us in on everyday life in Cairo. With his help and that of the driver, Ehab, we were able to find some lovely souvenirs from shops featuring papyrus, spices, and cotton. We highly recommend this tour and especially Mahmoud and Ehab.

Experience Cairo like a local! - I had a day to spare in Cairo on a business trip and decided to try the real Cairo food tour. I am verry happy that I decided to do so. Mahmoud was an excellent tour guide. We tried various tasty local cuisines at locations that only locals would know about. Mahmoud was also very knowledgeable about his country and its history. After some amazing food we continued to tour the Grand Market and ended with a walk through the old city. I would highly recommend this tour to fellow travelers.

The best experience to try the Egyptian breakfast like a local - We combined two tours to make for a complete day. Thanks to the team of Explore Egypt Tours. Our driver and tour guide Esmail was waiting for us at 11:00 am. Esmail was kind and willing to share not only about food in Egypt but about life in general and what Egypt is like. The food is authentic and often from tiny places that we would have never found ourselves, I promise you will not be hungry when you are finished. After this tour, we went to an amazing bazaar (Local Market) and enjoyed as much as we wanted, I highly recommend this tour to anyone who's looking to have a local food experience with the best possible guide. thanks to Yoma for organizing this so quickly,We felt safe and in great hands so we could relax and enjoy our time there. I had to thank her for making so many arrangements for everything on my wish list! Which included trying the Egyptian breakfast, and feeling like a local, which tasted amazing. I will order it every time I come to Egypt.😍

think twice. - In the images you can see that they take you to quite a few places but in reality there were not so many, but it still seemed a rather improvised tour, you understand the culture and the place to go but hygiene leaves much to be desired

Mixed experience - This is a revised review. My original was 1 star, but I have updated it to reflect the efforts of the company to make things right. A quick recap of my experience:
The food tour itself was pretty good. We were taken to smaller places and local chains to sample different local dishes. Not quite street food, but definitely not sit down dining either. It's worth it if you want someone to introduce you to cheap local dishes you can eat the rest of your trip.
After dining, they will want to take you shopping. We don't shop, but we went along with it for the experience. The guide claimed that these were no pressure government sponsored shops. I don't think they were. As our trip progressed we learned that all tours like to take you to different flavors of the same stores. Papyrus paper, essential oils and a few others. Many tourists regret their purchases for various reasons (overpriced, low quality, etc). In our case we were taken to a spice shop. We ended up buying a small amount of tea and spice. It was supposed to be about $15 USD, but the shop snuck an extra 0 on the price and charged us the equivalent of $150 on our credit card. I caught the scam later that night. A quick look at the google reviews of the shop showed this was a pattern and not a one off mistake. To the tours credit they got the shop to credit us back the $150. I will say that nothing happened until I posted the negative review. I sure hope they stop taking people there going forward.
Some advice from my experience. In Egypt skip the shopping stops unless you really do want to buy something you have knowledge about. If you do buy something, pay close attention to the prices and transaction amount.

Good experience with some hiccups - I booked this tour for my myself and 4 friends to taste authentic Egyptian food while learning a little about Cairo and Egyptian culture on our first full day in Egypt. While we had a good time overall, it was not what was advertised or expected. We came during Ramadan, and the restaurants we were suppose to go to were all closed. We found this out after walking around for nearly an hour, and our guide was surprised. Since this is a unique time of year, the tour company should have checked into things before the tour or not offered it during this period. Our guide did a good job coming up with an alternative restaurant that was very tasty, but of course they were not expecting us, so we had to sit for some time and wait for our food. Afterwards, we went to a desert shop to taste a unique pastry for Ramadan, then went to a neat spice shop and a paper making business that was very interesting. Our guide did not provide any information about the culture or the city, but he was very preoccupied with trying to make the tour work. My advice is to make sure you do not go on this tour during any high holy day or time like Ramadan!

We got scammed!!! - DO NOT TAKE!!! The food tour itself was ok. Our guide wasn’t very talkative at the start, but my wife is good at getting people talking so he opened up a bit over the course of our time together. The food was simple local cuisine, pretty good. The real travesty was the shopping stops at the end of the tour. We were taken to what were described as government sponsored shops. No pressure to buy. There wasn’t pressure, but at an establishment called Kenouz Spice House we decided to buy a small amount of tea and spice. The owner was very friendly (too friendly in retrospect). The con was adding a zero to the prices he verbally quoted us. It wouldn’t have worked if we paid cash, but I used a credit card. Instead of paying the 750 Egyptian pounds ($15 USD) we thought we were paying, we ended up paying 7500 pounds ($150 USD). I didn’t want to assume the tour operator was complicit or ok with this so I gave the opportunity to make it right. They did not help me. Go ahead and google this shop in Cairo. Other tourists have posted reviews citing the same or similar scams. I would not trust this operator. At the very least, skip any shopping stops they suggest.
