Dadiani Palaces Historical and Architectural Museum - The Dadiani Palaces Historical and Architectural Museum is a Georgian national museum situated in Zugdidi. It is recognized as one of the most distinguished palaces in the Caucasus, featuring a Neo-Gothic architectural style. The museum showcases a variety of Georgia’s natural cultural heritage, including the Tagiloni treasure materials, the holy vesture of the Mother of God, the icon of Queen Bordokhan, manuscripts from the 13th and 14th centuries, miniatures, relics of the Dadiani dynasty, and items related to Napoleon Bonaparte, the Emperor of France. The palace is surrounded by a picturesque courtyard and a botanical garden.
River Enguri - The Enguri Dam is a hydroelectric dam on the Enguri River in Tsalenjikha, Georgia. It is currently the world’s second-highest concrete arch dam, standing at 271.5 meters. Located north of the town of Jvari, it is part of the Enguri hydroelectric power station (HES), which is partially situated in Abkhazia. Construction of the Enguri Dam began in 1961 and was completed in 1977, marking an unprecedented achievement in scale and ambition at the time.
Mestia - Mestia is a highland townlet in northwest Georgia, situated at an elevation of 1,500 meters in the Caucasus Mountains. The population primarily consists of Svans, a cultural and linguistic subgroup of Georgians. Despite its small size, the townlet has been a significant center of Georgian culture for centuries and features numerous medieval monuments, such as churches and forts, which are included in the UNESCO World Heritage Sites list. The townlet is characterized by stone defensive towers, similar to those in Ushguli and Mestia proper (“Svan towers”). A typical Svan fortified dwelling includes a tower, an adjacent house (machubi), and other household structures enclosed by a defensive wall. Mestia is also a hub for mountaineering tourism.
Around Mestia
Heshkili - Visitors can explore small wooden homes, including one built in a tree, which is particularly popular among tourists. The area offers breathtaking views, rainbows, the magnificent nature of Svaneti, towering mountains, and a tranquil holiday experience. These are the reasons why people from around the world visit this almost forgotten village today.
Hatsvali Ski Resort - The Hatsvali – Mestia ski resort is located in Mestia. It offers 5.5 km of slopes for skiing and snowboarding, with 4 lifts available for guests. The winter sports area is situated between elevations of 1,868 and 2,348 meters. Guests can also take a cable car up to Hatsvali, a tall mountain with a stunning panoramic view of the Ushba peak.
Mestia, Becho, Shdugra Waterfalls
Shdugra Waterfall - Ushba Waterfall (Shdugra) is the most abundant waterfall in Georgia, located in Svaneti near Mazera village. Visitors can reach both the base and the top of the waterfall. From the top, one can see the glacier at the base of Ushba and enjoy the stunning views of Svaneti. The path to the waterfall is approximately 3 kilometers long (one way). To reach the top of the waterfall, an additional 3 kilometers must be walked. The final part of the path is of medieval complexity, and crossing the river is required, but the experience is truly worthwhile. Medium-level hiking skills are needed for this location, which is closed during winter, and an alternative location will be offered.
Mestia to Ushguli
Ushguli - Ushguli is the highest inhabited place in Europe, included in UNESCO’s world research list. Situated at an altitude of 2,100 meters above sea level, it is home to the most remarkable towers of Svaneti, including the residential towers of King Tamar, built at the turn of the 12th-13th centuries. The Lamaria religious complex, named after the goddess Lamaria in Svaneti mythology, is located on a hilltop overlooking the village. The chapel dates back to the 12th century and contains frescoes from the Georgian Golden Age.
Love Tower - According to legend, a young man and woman from the upper and lower villages on the Enguri River fell in love. As their villagers did not consent to their marriage, they built their home (this tower) on the riverbank between the villages and lived there. The residents of Bogreshi village-Iphari Community are their descendants today.
Ushguli to Batumi
Ushguli Ethnographic Museum - Visitors have the opportunity to see how people lived centuries ago. The museum is housed in a 13th-century building, where nearly all antique items are displayed.
