A great adventure - Seif was our guide to the Jozani Forest to see the Zanzibar Red Colobus monkey.
He is well spoken and articulate, friendly and knowledgeable and is of good company.
I recommend him to other visitors to Zanzibar.
The trails within the forest were a bit slippy under foot due to recent rain, so good sturdy foot wear is a must!

The guide was prepared on... - The guide was prepared on botany and fauna in both English and Italian and very patient. He took us to see several monkeys and the mangrove forest.

Beautiful forest and go with time to enjoy completely. - I was staying in Stone Town and my guide, Seif, went to pick me up personally at the door of the hostel, since cars didn't get in the street. On the eve he had already contacted me to match. The journey was a little long, and we had a little interruption because of the visit of the President of Tanzania, and that ended up making us arrive at the park late and with less time to visit.
However, this was not a problem, Seif managed to show me the usual part of visiting the park, and, patiently, we walked enough to find the red Colubus, which was my goal number 01 on the visit to the Jozani Forest. Super worth it, because we found a family with a puppet, and it was amazing to be able to film and photograph these rare specimens.
The park is beautiful, the mahogany trees are amazing, imposing.
A remark, which does not concern my guide specifically, but we have seen other guides encourage tourists to touch the monkeys, both gray and red colubus, and this was pretty bad; as a tourist, I felt prevented from questioning, since the guide himself encouraged such behavior, but I understand that other conscious guides should question and draw attention to those who do not follow the rules, for the good of the park itself and the tourist activity.

A Must-Visit Natural Wonderland - !
If you're looking to immerse yourself in Zanzibar's natural beauty, Jozani Forest is a must-visit. As the island’s only national park, it offers an unforgettable experience, blending lush greenery, wildlife, and a tranquil atmosphere.
The walk through the forest is serene, with the canopy offering welcome shade. The highlight of the tour is undoubtedly the chance to see the endangered Zanzibar Red Colobus monkeys. These friendly creatures are a joy to observe as they swing through the trees. The knowledgeable guides are fantastic, providing interesting insights into the forest's ecosystem and the conservation efforts in place.
Aside from the monkeys, you’ll also encounter diverse plant species, mangrove swamps, and other wildlife. The forest is well-maintained, and the paths are easy to navigate, making it suitable for all ages. Don’t forget to take your camera – the scenery is breathtaking!
Jozani Forest is a perfect escape from the beaches, offering a peaceful and enriching experience. Highly recommend!

Great experience! - Loved the forest walks and the blue and red monkeys of Zanzibar.
The Jozani Chwaka Bay National Park is a 50 km² national park in Tanzania located on the island of Zanzibar. The forest features an abundance of unique Zanzibar red colobus monkeys… The blue monkey is the Sykes’ monkey - also known as the white-throated monkey or Samango monkey. That is an old world monkey named after English naturalist Colonel William Henry Sykes (1790-1872), and has a large white patch on the throat and upper chest, and a grizzled (not blackish) cap.

Eco-Nice - A friendly but primitive atmosphere. Well maintained forest with few butterflies and resting red back monkeys. A well knowledgeable guide “Thabet” who explained every detail during the tour. We paid $12 per person for a 40 mn tour. Mind your feet from some species of ants that can bite.

Very nice moments - Beautiful walk with a private guide, meeting with monkeys and many other small animals, great times for those who love nature and the people who live there, meeting with children who sell fruit 🥰

Good to see the red colobus, but not worth more than an hour - We did the one hour tour, but really it could have lasted about 20 minutes as there's not a lot to see. We walked to two trees where there were plenty of red colobus monkeys, and some blue monkeys, and we didnt see them elsewhere. We were then driven to the mangrove forest for the second part of the tour. A boardwalk makes for a vaguely interesting walk, but there's only so much interest you can pretend to have about mangroves. The guide wsa very knowledgeable but unless you want to hear about mangrove trees for 20-30 minutes, then there isn't much to recommend this. Note that the first part of the tour was very muddy, so your footwear and long clothes will get muddy.

The monkeys were cute - An OK trip. It's fun to see the monkeys (and a few other animals if you're lucky, like duikers, skinks, snakes, other reptiles and lizards.) The mangrove broadwalk is beautiful and unique. I recommend the 1 hour tour, and not the 3 hours one, which was what we did. It was frankly too long walking about. A 2 hour tour would have been ideal, in my opinion.
A fun activity to do in Zanzibar with friends and family, but do so while travelling around the island. Don't go here only for the Jozani forest tour. It's better as part of a round-island trip with more activities plannes.

Disappointing - I found this over rated . We went for a 5 minute walk through the forest saw a couple of monkeys . Then we had to get back in the car to travel a small distance to walk through to try and see a couple more . Nothing was explained by the guide to what was happening . We didn’t bother getting back in car to follow the final time . Luckily the guy who drove us to this area was great and explained a few things
