- Conclude the tour with a full measure of your choice from our selection of 25 artisan spirits.
After the tour, feel free to linger and enjoy the ambiance. Our bar is open from 11 am to 11 pm, seven days a week.

Father’s Day gift - Great Father’s Day present
Gin experience
From the moment we arrived we was greeted by Tom who gave us a welcome G&T,then off to the distillery and shown where the magic happens, Tom explained everything very clearly , Then off to the main event the Gin tasting which was great did leave little typsy,
Great experience definitely recommend 5*experience

Fabulous and interesting - What a fabulous afternoon. Our guide was the lovely Tom. We got a welcome Signature gin and tonic before moving into the distillery where the process of making gin takes place. It’s all top secret. After that it’s on to the tasting upstairs in the lounge, There’s a great selection of locally inspired gins as well as some flavoured ones.

Knowledgeable humours tour about Hooting Owl and Gin. - Arrive a wee bit early, the tour starts with an introduction to your host. We got the fabulous Tom. First stop is the bar fir either the recommended signature gin or drink of your choice. This gives you time sit and enjoy your drink in the Scottish luxury lodge feel seating area with a wee military theme.
Then into the distillery. It's like an adult magical space. Beautiful polished copper stills, jars of mystical botanical ingredients and great informative chat from Tom.
Next is a trip up the stairs to the VIP aera for the gin tasting. Tom did not disappoint with his story telling and knowledge while he talked us through tasting 6 gins and a spiced rum (my favourite). At the end we got two nice surprises including a nice discount on any bottle's we bought. I can highly recommend the Coconut Rum ( yes, I'm not normally a gin drinker)
The tour finishes off with a walk back down stairs for a final drink of your choice and chance just to relax and enjoy the atmosphere. Our group was lucky enough to have some time chatting to the founder's Dom and Evette. Such lovely people.
Thank you for a brilliant afternoon that will be remembered for year's to come.

A surprise gem close to the heart of York - We fell across The Hooting Owl by accident as it was down the road from the apartment were staying in. I'm so glad we did! It's such a gorgeous place with a million different gins and a fantastic atmosphere. We had been out for a meal where my boyfriend proposed to me. When the owners asked where we had been (as we were dressed up) and I told them we were gifted a bottle of champagne and treat like royalty. It was so lovely. We are definitely planning another visit

A great afternoon drinking and learning about gin - I never knew the making and drinking of gin was so enjoyable. I wasn’t a gin enthusiast, but I am now. Tom was a great guide, explaining how the distillery works and the leading a generous tasting session

Don’t miss the Hooting Owl experience! - This was such a wonderful experience! Tom was an outstanding guide with top shelf knowledge of the incredible spirits distilled at Hooting Owl. The group of strangers on our tour quickly became friends and we all enjoyed the fine selection of carefully crafted small-batch gins plus a few little surprises that Tom provided. At the end, we were gifted with a commemorative glass etched with our name! If you’re looking for a unique experience that won’t break the bank, look no further. You won’t find a better value. Use the extra funds to take home a bottle of their delicious gin!!

Absolutely brilliant - We had a fantastic time at the Hooting Owl distillery and gin tasting. On arrival a Hooting Owl signature G&T, which was delightful and a taste of things to come. There was us and two other couples. Mark appeared with a tray covered in bottles of HO gins. This was very promising. A quick tour of the distillery to show how they make their small batch gin, and the love and attention that goes into creating it.
Then back into the very stylish and comfortable bar for further stories about the HO and a taste tour of their gins. And rums. Oh my - so good! Mark was equally informative and hilarious.
You finish with a generous pour of your favourite gin and a rather nice surprise, which I won’t spoil.
A superb way to spend a couple of hours and we can’t recommend it highly enough.

Disappointing - Ordered 2 double dark rums.
Asked to be sure it wasn’t spiced or flavoured. As an experienced rum drinker was so dissatisfied. Tasted very confected and vanilla flavoured. Returned to the bar to ask if we could discuss this but the barmaid was condescending and unhelpful. Will give this bar a swerve in future. A shame as the decor and music much more palatable than the rum or the service 😩
