The explorations in Garni and Geghard will include:
✅ A visit to Garni, the only pagan temple standing. King Tiridates I erected this edifice in the first century AD, dedicated to Mihr, the sun deity. Upon Armenia’s conversion to Christianity in the early fourth century, it was repurposed as a royal summer residence for Khosrovidukht, Tiridates III’s sister.
✅ Dominating the landscape is Geghard or “Ayrivank” (meaning ‘cave monastery’). Founded in the 4th century by Gregory the Illuminator, this complex was built around a sacred spring nestled inside a cave. The main chapel was added to the complex in 1215.
✅ Lastly, we will venture to the Charents Arch. This spot boasts a stunning panorama of Mount Ararat.
