Highlights
  • Upper Geyser Basin - Yellowstone’s famous Old Faithful is a must-see on everyone’s trip to Yellowstone National Park. This is a nice way to tour the Old Faithful area. Don’t get stuck in the busy traffic at Old Faithful! Meet us at the Biscuit Basin Trailhead to see Yellowstone’s most famous geyser, avoiding parking problems. Explore geysers, hot springs, steam vents and mud pots along the Firehole River. The hike is a six hour, six-mile loop. There are some ups and downs along the hike as we follow boardwalks and dirt trails, totaling 500 feet of elevation gain. We learn about the supervolcano we sit in as we enjoy a hearty picnic lunch next to exploding waters. Yellowstone Hiking Guides provides a morning snack, hearty picnic lunch, bear spray, backpacks, optical gear, trekking poles, and a professional guide.
  • Old Faithful - The geyser erupts every 90 minutes. We usually see it from a couple of different locations throughout the Upper Geyser Basin and up close.
  • Old Faithful Inn - We stop by the Old Faithful Inn briefly. A restroom is available here. The Inn is a National Historic Landmark. The architecture of this early 1900s log building is unique. It hosts a massive fireplace and knobby pine accents.
  • Daisy Geyser - One of Yellowstone’s lesser known geysers, this is a gem. Eruptions times can vary on this one.
  • Biscuit Basin - After hiking the Upper Geyser Basin we loop back to Biscuit Basin via Daisy Geyser. The Sapphire Pool in Biscuit Basin will be one of the last amazing hot springs we visit on the hike.
  • Observation Point Trail - This is a rugged little trail that we follow up above the boardwalks of the Upper Geyser Basin for great views. There is a great views of Old Faithful and other geysers from up there is you are able to time it right. The vista also offers stunning observations of the Yellowstone Caldera, the super-volcano crater that has been sculpted by various eruptions.

Additional Information

See Old Faithful unlike the average tourist. This tour uses the Biscuit Basin Trailhead to start the six-mile loop hike through the entire Upper Geyser Basin. This is the only hiking tour of its kind offered regularly in Yellowstone. We encounter the very busy Old Faithful area as the mid-point of our hike. Sections of this hike are on boardwalk. There are also sections on dirt trail where there are few other hikers.

Hike among half the world’s geysers. Also see numerous colorful hot springs and vibrant pools. We encounter wildlife from time to time including bison and bear. Take a pit stop at the Historic Old Faithful Inn to visit the facilities.

Fantastic Views - We had Marissa who was so friendly and knowledgeable! This was probably my favorite part of our trip, we saw so many geysers and learned so much. We got to hike a little through the woods and a little through the boardwalk area. We went late August it wasn't too crowded. The hike was not difficult but can be long especially if you're not used to the altitude or walking that distance. Awesome time and would recommend!

6 mile geyser hike - We are avid hikers but had never tried a guide hike before. We met Jackie at 8:00 and for the next 6 hours we’re treated to wonderful conversation and great local knowledge. We also enjoyed wonderful timing to view a variety of erupting geysers. Definitely recommend

Great overview of Yellowstone - We really did not know what to expect for the tour (even though the site made it sound pretty good), but Emily Jo made the hike/tour an awesome experience and so much fun! Neither of us can imagine getting a more experienced, knowledgeable, and friendly guide. And we felt very safe. The hike through the park is good exercise and a good length. But all the geysers and pools are amazing! This was our first trip to Yellowstone, and it is as wonderful as everyone says. Thank you for making our trip well worth it. We strongly recommend the Geyser Tour, especially if you can get Emily Jo as a guide. Thank you again.

Wonderful Geyser Day Hike - This was a really fun tour and very informative. Having a great guid to explain the history behind each Geyser and hot springs was so worth the experience. Emily Jo our guide was great. The lunch provided was very good as well. If you like to support local business, this is a great local company and not a big corporate owned tour company. Thanks for a great day. Bart and Brianna.

Excellent hike plus geyser tour - Great hike and geyser tour. Our guide Alex was well prepared and made sure we got the most out of our tour. Adjusted our times to be sure we saw the eruptions, very knowledgeable and great balance between hike, education and sites. Medium hard hike but long (6 miles) with some elevation so be prepared for the walk. Highly recommend.

DO IT! You won't regret!! - We took this trip with Chris as our guide and it was FANTASTIC!!! He was super knowledgeable about the park, geysers, animals, plants and whole lot others. He was also so well prepared (food, water, sunscreen, bug spray, bear spray, etc.) and was very pleasant and accommodating. We learned so much, saw a lot and had amazing time! Thank you Chris!!! Your students are sure lucky to have you as their science teacher. I highly recommend this trip to anyone.

Great tour of the geyser basin - This was a very comprehensive tour of the geyser basin area! Our tour guide Jake did a great job of not only giving us the facts about the the various features of the tour, but also some really interesting back history of the region and the park itself. We did this tour on our first day in the park, so Jake was able to recommend some other areas and attractions to see. Plus, we were lucky enough to see Old Faithful erupt not once, but twice from different vantage points.
