The likelihood of encountering a Sri Lankan leopard is at its best here, as is the probability of sighting elephants. Our visit occurred during a lesser drought at Yala national park, resulting in the elephants migrating deeper within the park to congregate around the enduring lakes, away from the primary roads. Still, we were fortunate to catch a glimpse of a solitary male feeding amidst the trees. Should your visit to Yala not coincide with a period of drought, you can anticipate viewing troops of elephants meandering through the park in the open.
