- On a rainy day, our family was the only one which meant that we basically had a private tour. Our guide Amber was so warm and friendly, as were our tuk-tuk drivers. They were able to accommodate us having 2 picky kids who don’t eat spicy food. Even though the kids didn’t like everything, they found some new favorites that they never thought they would like. We adults on the other hand enjoyed every bite! Our guide was not only helpful for food explanations and suggestions but with other local info for our trip to Xi’an. Our only regret is that we didn’t take this tour earlier in our trip to make use of Amber’s suggestions!

Adventurous foods with a knowledgeable guide - This was a great introduction to food options in the Muslim Quarter. It's an adventurous breakfast menu by American standards, with intense, spicy flavors, but the dishes were all excellent. The tour runs only on days when a street market is operating, which is lively and interesting. Best of all was our guide, BuRen, who spoke great English and is a true foodie, both in his enthusiasm for all things culinary and in his knowledge of the local food scene. The day after the tour he gave me a recommendation for Qishan noodles that might have been the best noodle dish of my whole trip.

Good luck finding something more authentic than this! - I attended this tour with my wife and two girls (10 and 5 y/o) and mother in law 70+ y/o and we all had a blast! Needless to say it was fun for all ages! Buren (fabric man) our tour guide was excellent and really was the heart of the experience. He was accommodating (mother in law needed wheel chair, no problem), knowledgeable and just generally a very fun and passionate foodie that loves the xi'an food scene. The tour itself was very well planned with a great selection of locations. The use of tut tuts to navigate the narrow streets of the muslim quarter allowed us to cover a lot of ground and go really deep into areas where it was obvious that we were the only foreigners around. Likewise the food spots were truly authentic and not popularized with social media as evidenced by us being the only foreigners among the local diners. Buren also provided us with tons of local food recommendations which really added to our visit in Xi'an and Shanghai. Way to provide value even AFTER the tour!! Thank you again, and will absolutely recommend this tour with Buren!

Amazing Food Tour with Knowledgeable Guide - The morning food tour with Buren was amazing! He took us to many local spots with authentic food that we wouldn't have been able to try anywhere else. Buren was very knowledgeable and passionate about the food. While other tours can feel inauthentic, this one felt like we were experiencing the city like a local.

Great way to explore Xi'an! - We had a fantastic time on the Morning Market & Food tour this week (June '25). Our tour guide Buren was awesome - his knowledge of Xi'an's Muslim Quarter's history and culture taught us so much about the area. We sampled a variety of dishes - with a lot of the restaurants being local favorites with queues out of the doors and into the streets. Definitely don't eat before you start as we had enough food for breakfast, brunch and lunch! Alongside the delicious food we walked through the local markets and tried some fresh lychee & Plum Soup (yum!). Buren got in contact before the tour to provide trip details and went out of his way to cater to my vegetarian dietary requirements finding some alternative restaurants which was extremely thoughtful. We couldn't reccommend Buren and Lost Plate Food Tours enough - thank you!

Great local food tour of Xian - We loved our morning food tour! The guide was great, and it came with a private Tuktuk to drive us around the city to all the food spots. The food was all great, really local places to give us insight into Xian and the guide was able to share a lot about the history and culture of Xian - highly recommended!

Fantastic. Highly recommend. - Our guide, Buren, was so knowledgeable about the local food. Delicious things that I would not have tried without this guide. Very friendly guide with excellent English who was easy to chat to and offered advice and stored about the area. We even got to go into the kitchen and help make dumplings at the final restaurant.

A Flavorful Introduction to Xi'an Morning Food Tour - We had a fantastic time on our morning food tour! It was the perfect introduction to Xi'an's food scene and checked all the boxes for what we were hoping to experience on our first day there. Our guide, Buren, was knowledgeable and created a warm, welcoming atmosphere for everyone on the tour.

A great sampler of Xi’an food culture - I’ve done several Lost Plate tours and they have all been great, but I thought the one led by Buren was especially fantastic. It’s really clear that he is a real foodie (not just a job) and he was fantastic at explaining the food, answering questions, and making additional recommendations to pursue on my own. The tour gave me the confidence I needed to explore food in farther flung parts of the city. I couldn’t recommend Lost Plate more!
