- The Museum of Qin Terra-cotta Warriors and Horses - Day 1, Time: 7:30 - 12:00
Begin your day with a hotel pickup and a one-hour drive (arriving around 9 am) to the Terracotta Museum. Embark on a journey to explore the Terracotta Army site. Follow your guide to uncover the incredible terracotta warriors, buried for over 2,000 years, and learn fascinating tales about China’s first emperor, Emperor Qin Shi Huang (259–210 BC).
The museum features three pits. The suggested visiting order is Pit 1 – Pit 2 – Pit 3 – followed by the Mausoleum of Qin Shi Huang, allowing you to follow historical clues from general to detailed insights.
Pit 1 is the largest, estimated to contain around 6,000 figures and a significant amount of bronze weaponry. The vast array of figures will leave you in awe, transporting you back to the Qin Dynasty when the soldiers were poised for battle.
Pit 2 is smaller than Pit 1, and Pit 3 is the smallest.
- Xi’an City Wall (Chengqiang) - Day 1, Time: 14:30 - 17:00
The Xi’an Ancient City Wall, initially constructed during the Ming Dynasty (1370–1378 AD), is the largest and best-preserved ancient city wall in China. It forms a rectangle with a total length of 13.74 kilometers, enclosing the downtown area of Xi’an City. The wall features four main gates: the north gate, east gate, south gate, and west gate. Your visit will commence at the East Gate (Chang Le Gate).
After a pleasant walk, your guide will lead you down from the wall. Alternatively, you may choose to cycle on the wall at your own expense.
- Muslim Quarter - Day 1, Time: 17:00 - 18:00
Following the city wall visit, proceed to Xi’an’s renowned food street, Muslim Street, where you can explore a variety of local foods and snacks. Feel free to sample some if you wish.
- Tomb of Emperor Jingdi (Hanyangling) - Day 2, Time: 7:30 – 11:00
As on the previous day, your guide will meet you in your hotel lobby at the scheduled time (around 7:30 AM-8 AM) to take you to the first destination: Hanyangling Mausoleum. The drive takes approximately 40 minutes. This museum features an underground exhibition hall, allowing visitors to view the archaeological findings from the vast mausoleum complex of Emperor Jingdi (also known as Liu Qi, 188 to 141 BC) of the Han Dynasty, along with his wife, officials, dynastic clan members, and commoners. There is also a burial site for the slaves who constructed the complex. The underground hall opened in 2006. Although the archaeological site covers a small area, the entire burial complex is extensive, spanning about 10 square kilometers or 4 square miles.
- Small Goose Pagoda - The Small Wild Goose Pagoda is a multi-eave, square, brick structure with fifteen stories. Originally 46 meters tall, it now stands at 43.3 meters due to the loss of its steeple. It features a square pedestal and a large first story, with each side measuring 11.38 meters. The north and south sides of the first story have doors framed with black stone. The lintel carvings depict arhats and grass designs, showcasing the exquisite craftsmanship of the early Tang Dynasty. Visitors have the opportunity to ring the bell for blessings and good fortune.
- Xi’an Museum - Located near the pagoda, Xi’an Museum spans an area of 245 hectares and opened to the public in May 2007. The museum reflects Xi’an city’s rich history, integrating the Small Wild Goose Pagoda, a national key cultural protection unit, the ancient buildings of Janfu Temple, and the modern cultural relic exhibition hall. This harmonious blend highlights the unique features of this garden museum, offering a strong historical ambiance within a modern setting.
