Great guide in Xi 'An - We did this tour with Bruce and his wife Lilly. It was one of the most enjoyable experiences we had in China. Bruce is incredibly informed, chatty and good fun, and Lilly likewise as well as being an excellent cook. From the time we met them outside the tube station, they could not have been more hospitable or helpful and gave us a great insight into life in China. I could not recommend them highly enough. Bruce has his own transport and also does his own private tours which I imagine would be great. His email address is [email protected].

Amazing Experience Cooking and Getting a Taste of Life in Xi'an - This was a really special and amazing tour for us. I booked it because I was mainly interested in learning the technique of how to make hand pulled noodles (all my attempts at home ended in failure), but the actual experience was so much more. Michael was a friendly and knowledgeable guide who communicated well with us before the tour and was flexible as far as start time. We began with a trip through streets with local vendors, with Michael explaining about the produce we were getting. We then went to start cooking at a typical apartment, which gave us the opportunity to see life for local people. I don't want to spoil the surprise, but we were shown amazing hospitality. The cooking class itself was very laid back and helpful, and Michael carefully explained each step. He guided us through cooking the sauce for the noodles (we were able to cook this ourselves) and also through making the dough and pulling the noodles (we were able to pull our own noodles, and I even had some successful ones!). But the main highlight was sitting down for the meal once the work was done - it felt like sitting down for a family meal with home cooked food and a very good atmosphere. If you are looking to experience what it might be like to prepare a dish at home as a Xi'an local and get some more insight into local life (this is not just strictly a cooking class in a kitchen with a rigid curriculum), this class is for you. It was one of the best things we did while in Xi'an and I would highly recommend.

Excellent Biang Biang Class - This class was exactly what we were looking for. Michael was an excellent teacher and we had so much fun making Biang Biang Noodles. Before the class we got to visit a Chinese market which was an experience in its self. I would definitely book this class if you are looking to learn how to make excellent Biang Biang Noodles

Great local market experience and shopping, learn how to make your own hand-pulled biang biang noodles 🤲🍜 Would recomm - We had a lot of fun during the cooking class. We especially liked the local market with all the variety of vegetables, spices and tofu. It was definitely off the beaten tourist track and a great experience. Biang biang noodles are great, so the cooking was fun too. Note: the course description and pictures should be updated though. The first pictures show a bigger traditional chef‘s kitchen. Whereas, the cooking was done in a modern flat with smaller kitchen. There are some photos of this, but the current state could be clarified better.

Amazing and very personal market and cooking experience - We had a great day with Michael. It was amazing to see the locals market and the wide variety of produce available. We also learned a bit about the local history and the people living there. We also loved the cooking class. Michael was a great teacher, and we had a very personal experience in a local home. The food was amazing, and we will be cooking the recipes at home a lot. Michael also helped us out with the rest of our trip. He provided recommendations for the best places to eat, and more unknown things to do. I would recommend to anyone!

SUCH A GOOD EXPERIENCE - We met our guide Micheal at the metro, near a local food market in the morning. He was so friendly and informative, we learned a lot about food in the Shaanxi region, picked up some crazy cheap walnuts and various other bits to cook with. The class itself was great, we were cooking in a local restaurant, both my mother and I kneaded the noodle dough and hand pulled out noodles, eventually leading to a giant bowl of noodles for each person. My mum is veggie and the cooking class accommodated for that. Really enjoyed my time and would highly recommend as a way to explore real chinese culture.

Great visit, awesome cooking class! - We started with the visit of an authentic local market, with many tasting and lots of explanations about the whereabouts and products. Then we went to a restaurant kitchen and met the chef, and were well explained, step by step, and with a touch of humor how to cook the famous buang biang noodles. After some time we were finally able to have a taste of our own cooking, sharing the meal with both Dongcheng the guide (and food lover) and Yan the chef. A great morning for every cooking or food lover!

Cooking demonstration in an apartment, not a cooking class - I booked this class because we love oil splashed noodles and biang biang noodles, and I wanted to learn to make them. I also love having cooking classes where we each get our own station and get to put out own spin on a dish. This class is not that. The pictures in the ad are not accurate. We were with two lovely people - Bruce and Lily - and we went to the market and then took the bus to their second floor apartment (not a courtyard as in the description). We made the noodle dough, but we did not make the dish. We got to do some chopping, but they didn't even have a knife for each of us (we were 6 people). When it time to cook, we were invited to watch Lily cook. I was very disappointed, as I booked this tour hoping for a real cooking class, and I assumed based on the pictures and description that this would be that. My mother loved getting to go to a real Chinese family's apartment, so if that is what you are looking for, you will enjoy this class.
