A buoyant experience, but my joke sank without trace - Our first-ever ride in a jet boat and although we took another one later on in Queenstown, neither that nor any others will match this experience. The exhilaration of hurtling along at 70 knots (roughly 130km/h), the well-signalled but still deliciously disorientating 'handbrake turns', the breathtaking views, the complete absence of other vessels and the expert commentary from (iirc) Ben all combined to make this an unforgettable experience. Ben talked about the land and its wildlife, in particular the creatures that have become extinct, invariably due to the actions of humans. The famous one, he said, was the Moa, the flightless bird that grew up to 3.6m in height. "There were three main types around here," Gary explained. "The giant moa, the mountain moa..." "...and the lawn moa," I said. I suppose you had to be there. Although others WERE there and they didn't find it particularly funny either. Oh well.

South Island Must Do - If you visit the South Island, this is a must do activity! The staff is amazing and our river guide was amazing. I wasn't sure how the hike to the waterfall would turn out, but it was probably one of the highlights of the trip. You could tell how much our guide enjoys his job and is proud of NZ. He was full of fascinating information and happy to answer all of our questions. The hike was beautiful through farmland and woods to see a beautiful creek and waterfall. I would do it again!

Yes - this is worth it! - We had a fantastic guide (Ben), perfect weather, and just one other couple on our excursion. It made for an incredible experience. Big rains earlier in the week had the water level up and the river water was an irridescent glacier pale blue. The mountain views were spectacular, the glaciers impressive and the boat ride thrilling. The nature walk was easy and relaxing yet very interesting. Ben took us through some of the history of the place and how that has impacted the environment. Would HIGHLY recommend.

Great morning - We really enjoyed the trip. The view was great and the captain very good. He enjoyed telling and showing us everything. And to turn us around with the boat. I had a nice chat with him. An interesting man. His wife was also super sweet and provided us transport to the boat

Worth every penny - It's totally worth the money, our jet boat driver Ben was engaging and extremely knowledgeable. Importantly he is a master of his art - controlling a jet boat.

Wilderness Extravaganza - We had Ben and Sue recommend by First Light Travel and they didn’t disappoint! Sue gave us a rundown on the area whilst commuting us to the drop off point with Ben our skipper. Ben has a connection with the bird life and wilderness area whilst thrilling us with his boating skills over a 40 kilometre trip on the river. We had a fantastic time thanks Deidre and Bryan Burrell
