Windhoek Airport – Hilton Hotel, Windhoek City Centre – 50 km
Naankuse Wildlife Sanctuary - The journey will take us to the renowned N/a’an ku se Wildlife Sanctuary, situated approximately 50 km east of Windhoek. This sanctuary is dedicated to the care and rehabilitation of sick, injured, and orphaned animals. The primary goal is to release these often rare and endangered species back into their natural environments, allowing them to thrive in the wild. Unfortunately, this is not always feasible. Some animals at N/a’an ku se are unable to survive independently in their harsh natural habitats. Instead, they find a permanent home at the sanctuary, enjoying an “early retirement.”
Windhoek – Etosha National Park, Oshikoto Region – 500 km
Etosha National Park - Guests will be picked up from their accommodation within Windhoek city limits at 07:00 and taken to Chameleon Safaris Headquarters for a brief pre-departure meeting. Traveling north from Windhoek, there will be a short stop in the small town of Otjiwarongo to gather any last-minute supplies before continuing to Etosha. A light lunch pack will be enjoyed while on the move. Upon entering Etosha National Park, a game drive will lead to the overnight accommodation at Okaukuejo Camp.
Etosha National Park–Taleni - Etosha Village – 70 km
Etosha Pan - The entire day is dedicated to exploring Etosha, making the most of the experience. The park gates open at sunrise, and the aim is to start the journey as the sun rises. Early morning is typically a productive time for game viewing, especially for spotting big cats returning from their hunts. The day will be spent game driving in Etosha National Park, exiting the park in the late afternoon to reach the accommodation for the night.
Etosha – Swakopmund, Hotel A La Mer – 510 km
Swakopmund - Desert Camp, near Sesriem – 350 km
Tropic of Capricorn Sign - Departing Swakopmund in the mid-morning, the journey heads east into the desert. The route crosses the Namib gravel plains, vast expanses of flat and seemingly barren land interrupted by massive mountain inselbergs. Two mountain passes will be traversed this afternoon, starting with the impressive Kuiseb Pass. The road descends steeply from the mountain tops into the canyon carved over millennia by the Kuiseb River, which flows into the ocean at the port town of Walvis Bay.
Desert Camp, Sossusvlei – Desert Camp – 120 km
Sesriem - The focus this morning is on witnessing the sunrise over the dunes, necessitating a pre-dawn start and an early breakfast. The optimal time for photographing the dunes is around sunrise and sunset, when the towering sand dunes are bathed in a glowing orange and apricot red on one side, with shadows on the other. The depth of field is remarkable at this time of day.
Sunday – Desert Camp – Windhoek – 320 km
Solitaire - Although it’s the last day, excitement remains high. The journey returns to Solitaire, where an open vehicle tour will visit a local conservation project focused on cheetahs. Solitaire is home to several cheetahs that, for various reasons, cannot be released back into the wild. This excursion provides an opportunity to learn about cheetahs, the conservation efforts, and to capture stunning photos of the world’s fastest land mammal. After the activity, guests can enjoy the famous apple pie that has made this homestead renowned.
