The view, the wine, the people - We really enjoyed the curated wine tour with an enjoyable group of travelers. We were impressed by the number of wines presented for tasting. Of course we enjoyed some more than others, but that’s what it’s all about. JR was a great tour guide and driver.

Super fun time and worth it - Everyone was very friendly and it was a good time. Learned some new things along the way and the itinerary was a good place. Liked that they pick up and drop off right at your hotel. I would recommend it if you're in the area, excellent deal in my opinion.

Great trip - We had a lovely day in the Narossa with a group of 8 of us. The driver made sure everyone left 8 seats for us at the back which was considerate. When the driver/ guide became ill the owner of the company stepped in and they communicated this well with us. He was excellent-friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. He went out of his way to return my husband’s phone when he left it on the bus. The lunch was delicious and the wineries were all very good.

Not as “Groovy” as it used to be - Having enjoyed a number of Groovy Grapes wine tours on previous trips to Adelaide, on our return to the city after 10 years, we were chuffed to bits to see that these were still being run & immediately jumped online to book a “Groovy” Grape Barossa Day Out tour. We were slightly confused when the booking confirmation we received was from a company called See Adelaide and Beyond, but didn’t think too much more of it. On the morning of the tour, we were looking out for the good old “Groovy Grape” branded bus bursting with backpackers & travellers alike who were geared up for a fun-filled day of wine tasting & a good old Aussie BBQ by the lake at one of the wineries. We were greeted by our lovely tour guide Russ who we have to say was absolutely awesome, a genuinely nice bloke who knew his stuff. He was very keen and passionate to share his knowledge of the local region and wine, sadly for us this is where our enjoyment ended. There was no bustling bus full of people, just one other person. (perhaps an idea to only run this tour with a minimum number, maybe 4 or 5ppl?) Whilst we appreciate the operator cannot control booking numbers, it did lead to somewhat of a flat atmosphere. However, Russ did a brilliant job of trying to keep things lively as he could. We were further disappointed to learn that we were only visiting 2 wineries & a brewery (the tour was a full day 9am - 5pm). In all previous “Groovy Grape” tours there had been 4 wineries plus a pub stop on the itinerary. The 2 wineries we were taken to were not the best. Kies family winery was charming enough, a good tasting but slim pickings on the amounts given in comparison to previous. The 2nd winery, Lambert, was very clinical & had no character, it literally could’ve been anywhere in the world.!Although wine is subjective, there was not one wine I felt was of a good quality & the the chap doing the tasting here really wasn’t that interested in discussing the wines, which is a shame as there were no tasting notes just a piece of paper with the name of the wine and the price! I really do hate to be so negative, as I’m usually a glass half full person. But my disappointment continued, when we were told that lunch would be pizza & chips that was to be served at the same time as the tasting was being conducted. What happened to the good Aussie BBQ outside? This to me was probably the most disappointing part of the tour. Apart from our tour guide being so nice, there really is no “Groovy” in these tours anymore! I asked our guide what had happened to the old skool Groovy Grapes & he explained that Groovy Grapes had only just started up their tour again & were running it under the umbrella company See Adelaide and Beyond. Things then started to make sense to me, although the name is the same, everything else is not. Such a disappointment these fun down to earth true blue Aussie style tours are no longer the same. The above is by no means a reflection on our guide Russ, he was great. I really do hope as this is the first tour that has been run under the new umbrella, the above will be taken as constructive feedback rather than negativity as this is certainly the way it’s intended. If you’re looking for something authentic down to earth then maybe this is not the tour for you (at the moment), but I really do hope this tour finds its feet & it’s “Groovy” again😊

Great people but could be better - So firstly everyone hosting the tour from the bus driver to all the winery hosts were really nice people! However the wineries selected were a little disappointing except Kies family winery. I thought the lunch was also very disappointing it wasn’t very filling and was just a cheese board. The 20 minute stop in town was a little pointless and there was to much history about wine and not enough tastings and considering we got picked up at 9am and dropped off at 5.30pm so a full day and only did 3 small wineries in the Barossa the overall experience was pretty poor.
