Best place to rent bikes in Westport - Second time renting bikes here and will always come back to Paddy & Nelly - so incredibly helpful, easy process, and the scenery on the greenway is always stunning. Absolutely would recommend renting an e-bike here!!!

A Relaxed and Enjoyable Day Out - A friend and I recently rented two ebikes from Paddy & Nelly Bike Hire and cycled from Westport to Achill Sound, approx 40km. I rang Paul for advice prior to booking and probably underestimated our ability so Paul advised me to cycle to Mulranny and to get the bus back, which is what we booked. We met Paul on the Friday morning to pick up our bikes. We'd never ridden an ebike before so Paul very patiently explained the operation of the bikes and we set off. On reaching Mulranny we had enough in the tank to carry on to Achill so we text Paul to let him know and that was no problem. As agreed we parked the bikes in Achill and got the bus back to Westport. We were lucky in that we had good weather and the whole experience was extremely relaxed and enjoyable. A small portion of the route is on or near the public road road but most of the route is through farm land and along the coast with fantastic scenery and views. Most of the route is level and it is easy for anyone with a moderate level of fitness, plus the ebike helps alot. All in all, a really lovely day out. Paddy and Nelly Bike Hire were very patient and flexible and I would definitely use Paddy & Nelly again and am happy to recommend them.

Cycling Westport Greenway - My sister and I spent a very enjoyable day cycling the greenway Westport to Achill on Tuesday 19th August while on a short break in Westport
We came across paddy&nelly bike hire while out walking and we had a chat with Paul about the options to cycle the greenway
We returned the next morning and had a short trial run on an e-bike as neither of us had previously used an e-bike
We then set off on our trip and we both quickly got confident and enjoyed the journey taking in the lovely views on route, in the main away from the busy roadside traffic
We had a break mid way and had our lunch overlooking the views out over the sea
We arrived at Achill with time to lock up the bikes and leave at the location as instructed by Paul and then relax with a cold beer before heading to the bus stop
Unfortunately due to unexpected circumstances the bus arrived about 30 minutes late and then broke down within about 20 minutes of the trip back to Westport, while waiting for a replacement bus to arrive we were lucky to be offered a lift back to Westport by a family who had been parked up close to our broken down bus
We would both highly recommend cycling the greenway for anyone taking a vacation in Westport and we would certainly recommend using paddy&nelly bike hire

One of the best things to do in Ireland! - Well organised by Paddy . We had a beautiful day riding with e-bikes from Westport to Achille Island . A highlight of our Ireland trip . It was so great to be amongst it at a slower pace .
The ride was easy ( e-bike ) but we still felt like we’d contributed on the bike with the different options for assistance.
We had a quick set up and Paddy explained everything well with directions and maps . Had a great lunch at Mulranny on the way. Once we arrived at Achille we had a bus trip back to Westport to a central location.
Big shout out to Paddy for setting us up . The whole thing was a pleasure

A great bike hire experience for exploring the route to Achill - After a great day with the group I decided to take my own day out exploring the cycle out to Achill. Thanks to Paul who recommended I take the bus back from Achill I had time to stop off and take in Mulranny, the bike was a German e-bike. Highly recommended.

A Fantastic Experience—Even When Plans Change! - I rented an E-bike from Paddy & Nelly Bike Hire with big plans to cycle 45km across the beautiful Irish countryside. What I didn’t factor in? It was my very first time on an E-bike! After a couple of minor wipeouts, I decided to change course—and I’m so glad I did.
Paul went above and beyond—he even came to collect me from the next town over when I realized it wasn’t the day for a cycling marathon. He was kind, patient, and incredibly understanding.
Thanks to his support, I spent the rest of the day enjoying Westport at a relaxed pace. Paddy & Nelly is exactly the kind of local business that makes travel feel personal—professional, welcoming, and genuinely caring. Highly recommend.

Left on the side of the road for hours without help or an apology. A disaster. - Oh my, what a complete disaster.
First of all, this company does not offer a shuttle from Achill back to Westport. If you plan on cycling one way, out to achill, please read on.
The Paddy and Nelly company offers you the possibility to book a shuttle but then, once at the shop, the company tells you that you must take a public bus back (you have already paid for your bike hire by now). The man hands you over some cash as a refund (not enough to cover the bus fare).
The instructions to get to the "shuttle" bus stop are inaccurate, as are the indicated times. (No doubt the company will distance themselves from this, stating they are not responsible).
Our "shuttle" was the 3.17pm from achill. The public bus appeared at 4pm and, at 4.20pm broke down at the side of the road.
So, i thought, let me call the owner, since he will have to come back to collect our bikes which we had left in achill.
He duly answered and i explained the situation, he very kindly told me he would in fact be passing by to pick up the bikes, in his car, with space for us, but that we should take a taxi as he had "lots on and lots for doing".
When i explained that we couldn't get an available taxi, he told me we could, without knowing. You will have guessed by now, that no taxis were available.
The owner did pass by, out to achill and back in to westport, while we were left, literally sitting on the side of the road for 2 hours for a replacement shuttle to bring us the 20 minutes to westport.
Our "shuttle" took 3 hours to get us back to westport.
I want to be clear. The Bus Éireann bus breaking down is not the bike shops fault. However, it is incorrect, misleading and false advertising to promote and then take payment for a shuttle service they do not provide. Refusing to help, despite driving right past your customers from achill to westport, with just "his dog" and the bikes in his trailer is very poor form.
Now, onto the bikes. One of our ebikes worked perfectly. The other did not. The system to change between modes did not work. It was stuck on eco and couldn't be changed. In addition, the range was only 45km on eco, so turbo wouldnt have lasted in any case.
Now, having paid this man 125 euro for 2 bikes and a shuttle service, I leave you to decide what kind of customer service this company provides. There are many operators in westport. Choose wisely.
