Embark on a cycling journey from our bike shop on Church Street, traversing the 400-acre Westport Estate to the 43km (27 miles) Great Western Greenway, a former railway line. Along the way, visit Grace Kelly’s Newport Mansion, Princess Grace of Monaco, France, and continue through the bogs along the coast to Achill Sound, passing through Mulranny Village. This approximately 3- to 4-hour ride on the award-winning Great Western Greenway, a secure off-road cycling path (e-bikes recommended), requires a moderate level of fitness. During your stop at Mulranny, enjoy stunning views of Clew Bay and Croagh Patrick Mountain with Clare Island in the distance. Discover the site in Clew Bay where the Spanish Armada sank during the sixteenth-century storms. Situated on Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way, the Great Western Greenway offers a delightful day trip. We provide both standard and e-bikes for testing your riding skills. The rental includes locks and panniers. Bus returns are available at 3 or 5 p.m. (or 4 p.m. on Sunday) for a fee of €10 per person.

The award-winning Great Western Greenway is the top outdoor activity in Westport. This safe, off-road cycling route spans 43 km (27 miles) from Westport to Achill Island along the Wild Atlantic Way. It passes through Newport and Mulranny, then crosses the boglands along the Achill coast to Achill Sound. Upon arrival, park and secure bicycles at the Achill Island Hotel.

Enjoy the hotel’s bar and restaurant, which offers stunning views over Achill Sound, fantastic local cuisine, and a wonderful place to relax while waiting for the bus. To return to Westport, walk 500m across the bridge up to the church and catch the bus back to Westport at 3pm or 5pm (4pm on Sundays). The journey takes 50 minutes and costs €10 per person, cash only.
