• West Glacier - This is the gateway town located just outside the west entrance of Going-to-the-Sun Road. It’s the last full-service town where you can grab essentials like coffee, gas, or bear spray before embarking on the two-hour drive.

• Apgar - At the Apgar Visitor Center, visitors can explore exhibits, plan their trips, use the restroom, and refill water bottles. It’s also the boarding point for the Going-to-the-Sun Shuttle. Apgar village offers a cafe, gift shop, supply store, and more.

• Lake McDonald - Here, visitors will enjoy their first views of Lake McDonald, the largest lake in Glacier National Park.

• Apgar Beach on Lake McDonald - This quick stop allows visitors to stroll along the pebbly shores of McDonald Lake, admiring its renowned rainbow rocks.

• Sprague Creek Campground - A shady, lakeside campground featuring numerous picnic tables for visitors’ enjoyment.

• Lake McDonald Lodge - Originally named the Lewis Glacier Hotel, this lodge was constructed in 1914 by prospector John Lewis. It’s a fine example of “parkitecture,” made from local stone and cedar.

• McDonald Falls - One of two short but stunning waterfalls along the McDonald Creek Trail. The blue-green water and white foam are especially beautiful on clear, sunny days.

• Sacred Dancing Cascade - The second of the two cascading falls on McDonald Creek. Visitors can stop at each roadside pullover or take the McDonald Creek Trail to see both. Turning around at McDonald Falls makes the total trip about one hour and a mile long.

• Trail of the Cedars - Known for its Western Red Cedar and Hemlock rainforest, this easy, flat, half-mile loop is popular with hikers, many of whom continue on to Avalanche Lake.

• Avalanche Lake - To reach this famous lake, hikers start at the Trail of the Cedars Trailhead. The 4.5-mile (7 km) Avalanche Lake Trail passes through rainforest, multiple waterfalls, and leads to a crystal-clear glacial lake reflecting Avalanche Peak.

• Red Rock Point - These rocks, made of compacted clay and oxidized iron, have a rusty red color. This roadside stop features the clear-blue waters of McDonald Creek cascading over the red Grinnell rocks.

• Mount Cannon - This overlook provides views of the snow-dusted Mount Cannon. Formerly known as Mount Goat until 1901, it was first summited by two adventurous newlyweds.

• Garden Wall - This overlook offers a first view of the McDonald Valley before ascending to the higher altitudes of the Garden Wall.

• The Loop Trailhead - The Loop is the steepest hairpin turn on the road and a major highlight for hikers. It’s the trailhead for some of the park’s most famous trails, including The Loop, Granite Park, and the Highline.

• Bird Woman Falls - Fed by snowmelt from Mount Oberlin and Mount Cannon, these falls are especially spectacular in late spring and early summer. From the overlook, Bird Woman Falls, at 960 feet, is visible across the valley.

• Paradise Meadow - This quick roadside stop allows visitors to see across the rolling hills and valleys of Glacier. In spring, vibrant wildflowers blanket the hillside.

• Oberlin Bend - Oberlin Bend offers a ten-minute boardwalk trail with great views of Logan Pass, the McDonald Valley, and sometimes Glacier’s mountain goats, the local mascots.

• Logan Pass - At 6,600 feet above sea level, Logan Pass is the highest elevation on the road. There’s much to see and do here, including several famous trails and the Logan Pass Visitor Center.

• Highline Trail - A popular trail on the Going-to-the-Sun Road, the Highline Trail in Glacier National Park is a spectacular 11.8-mile path following the Continental Divide, offering breathtaking views of alpine meadows, rugged mountain peaks, and diverse wildlife.

• Lunch Creek - Hidden in a hairpin turn, Lunch Creek Pullover is where water cascades down Pollock Mountain. A short walk to the observation deck offers stunning sights and sounds.

• Piegan Pass - A popular hike, Piegan Pass is over nine miles long and a full-day adventure. The trail follows Siyeh Creek through a thick spruce-fir forest and up to the barren, rocky pass between Siyeh and the Cataract Mountains.

• Jackson Glacier Overlook - This overlook provides views of Jackson, the park’s 7th largest remaining glacier, and offers insights into glaciers and their future in the park.

• St. Mary Falls - For a short hike, the St. Mary Falls Trail is highly recommended. It’s only 1.5 miles to the falls and back, with less than 200 feet of elevation change. To double the falls experience, take the trail to Virginia Falls for a total of three miles round trip.

• Siyeh Pass - This quick hike is great on its own or with St. Mary’s Falls. It’s just over a mile to Baring Falls and back.

• Sun Point Nature Trail - The picturesque promontory of Sun Point is perfect for overlooking St. Mary Lake. The Sun Point Nature Trail, a two-mile (3 km) hike, offers stunning views of Saint Mary Lake, Baring Falls, and Red Eagle Mountain.

• Wild Goose Island Lookout - A great spot to practice photography skills, this lookout offers views of mountains from left to right: Red Eagle, Mahtotopa, Little Chief, Dusty Star, and Citadel.

• The Narrows - This overlook provides views of The Narrows and The Golden Staircase, the narrowest channel of the lake and the retaining wall supporting the banks.

• Rising Sun Boat Dock - A great spot to dip toes in the waters of St. Mary Lake, watch boaters, or even set sail.
