Very good, would recommend! - Ride a Wave Surf School are my number 1 choice for surfing in Weligama, I started with no confidence & no experience, & after 5 lessons have left wanting to come back & practice more surfing! Shan was great at explaining what we needed to be aware of, how to be safe in the water, what to fix on our positions when we were practicing & letting us practice on the board multiple times until we were confident getting on the water. If you’re a beginner or an intermediate surfer I would suggest you check them out, I really enjoyed my lessons with the team & felt looked after the entire time!

I came here and I did my first lesson and I couldn’t even stand up, but after a few days with the good-hearted and patient teacher Hasa, I could do magic ✨ the whole team is one of the best you can find in Weligama! And Hasa the best teacher of the country

My amazing experience at the Ride a Wave School - I had my first experience with the surfboard at the Ride a Wave School. It was amazing! All instructors at the school are excellent professionals who pay great attention to your training and explain important nuances and techniques. By choosing this school, you will definitely get on the board and make progress in your skills My instructor was Shan. He is super professional, explain the techniques clearly, patient, funny and really care to give all important things about surfing - a proper pop up, how to paddle well, your safety in the water an so on. That was really great time!!! I've tryed to ride 3 kind of boards and made progress thanks to Shan and his great expertise! That was the best and enjoyable vacation ever! I will for sure recommend this school to all my friends! Shan you are the best!

Arrogance - I've only had good experiences in Sri Lanka so far. The people here have always been friendly to me. Today was the first time that wasn't the case. At this surf school, “Ride a Wave Surf School”, I was treated from top down. Apart from the fact that their English was terrible (with the exception of one guy), I barely understood what they were trying to explain to me and they didn't understand me either, they also made me feel unwelcome. The younger guy, about 15-17 years old, really showed me how stupid he thought I was and that, from his point of view, I was a complete idiot, a beginner surfer who also wanted to rent a surfboard from them. He was unmotivated. And he kept making jokes about me to other guys there in his own language. Yes, I can understand that even without knowing your language. The reason why I didn't look for another provider is that we just wanted a place to sit in the shade (you can only get it there for money) and didn't feel like looking any further. Hey, you're there to earn money with us! Our money is your wage, your food on your table! That's no way to treat your customers, your money-makers. That fifteen-year-old boy of yours still has a lot to learn. I'm giving you one more star because the older gentleman at the counter was nice to me, even if he didn't speak English and the one teacher I saw might have qualities. My tip: If the young man behaves the way he did with me, just show him directly that he's a jerk, he deserves it, and move on to the next provider.
