Worth going !!! - Amazing experience! Worth going even though is going through refurbishment of the property. Our tour guide Terry was incredible. Very knowledgable and patient. My kids (3 and 6) loved it. Its a trip worth doing if visiting Washington D.C. Stepping into so much history. Can't wait to go back!

Lackluster - I would not recommend taking this tour on a Sunday or until 2026. While we stopped at the Church in Alexandria it was just a stop because there are active services on Sunday, no other stops in Alexandria - Alexandria is more of a drive through. Mt. Vernon is closed for remodeling and you can only view 2 rooms and the kitchen. We did not get to see the gardens, etc. even with the limited house tour the tour seemed rushed and unorganized. More focus on the “enslaved” people vs. George Washington and family. The guide mentioned several times that she hasn’t done this tour in a while so someone probably called out sick today. I do not feel that we got any benefit by being with a tour group. The free audio tour would have been sufficient vs the $300+ we paid for this lackluster experience.

Oldtown/Mt vernon - There was a funeral at Christ Church so we could not see it in Old Town, without it stopping there seemed like a waste of time. Mt Vernon was great but most of the mansion is closed until next year. This tour was expensive for what we got.

A good way to get to Mount Vernon - The tour was a good way to get to Mount Vernon from D.C. We spent 3 hours there (sufficient for a day with low crowds) and had a quick stop at Christ Church in Alexandria after a short drive around the charming city. The reason for the average rating was due to an average guide and the bus being run down - seats worn out, suspension system needing serious maintenance and poor microphone system.

Disappointing - We were very disappointed with this and feel that there should be some sort of refund. Firstly the Viator info for this tour said that we would have 4 hours Mount Vernon and 1 hour around Old Town Alexandria. This is not correct - we stopped briefly on the way to Mount Vernon to see a church in Alexandria and that was our only time there. We mentioned this to the guide at the sgtart and she said that we could get off the bus and get a refund, but we wanted to see Mount Vernon. We then got to Mount Vernon to find that 75% of the house is under reconstruction or being refurbished so you don't have access to it. There was a note on the website saying 'some areas were not accessible' but we were not expecting 75%! We only got to see one room in the house. This should be made much clearer if you are going to ask for that much money. We definately feel there should be some kind of refund. Would welcome your thoughts on this?

Beware! Under MAJOR construction - The house is under major renovation in 2025, to be completed by 2026. The house tour consists of two rooms, one of which is is stripped down to the floor joists and the group touring is crammed into a small space at the edge of the wall. The exterior, including the porch overlooking the Potomac, is also under construction. The website should advise of this and it does not.
