• United States Botanic Garden - Visitors gather directly across from the U.S. Botanic Garden Conservatory, one of North America’s oldest botanical gardens, established by Congress in 1820, situated at 100 Maryland Avenue SW.
• Ulysses S. Grant Memorial - Among the largest equestrian statues globally; the sculptor dedicated 20 years to its completion.
• Peace Monument - Peace Monument/Peace Circle honors naval casualties of the Civil War, featuring figures “Grief” and “History.”
• U.S. Capitol - NOTE: Due to the ongoing Government Shutdown, visitors will only see the exterior of the US Capitol until the government reopens.

Inside the U.S. Capitol:
Visitors pass through security, take a brief break, view the orientation film, and then join the official guided tour with headsets. Typical rooms include the Crypt, Rotunda, and National Statuary Hall; occasionally, the Old Supreme Court or Old Senate Chambers. The Rotunda fresco “The Apotheosis of Washington” is 180 feet above the floor; the Crypt was initially intended for Washington’s burial.

Library of Congress (self-guided after Capitol):
After being escorted to the tunnel, visitors use timed-entry passes to enter the Jefferson Building, often regarded as Washington’s most beautiful building. Highlights include:

– The Gutenberg Bible – one of only three perfect vellum copies in existence.
– The Great Hall – a grand Italian Renaissance-style atrium with marble columns, mosaics, gold leaf, and murals by renowned artists.
– The Main Reading Room – viewed from the upper observation deck, this iconic circular reading room is featured in numerous films.
– Putti and carvings – cherubic figures representing arts and sciences adorn the balustrades.
– Architectural firsts – the Jefferson Building was the first public building in DC designed for electric lighting and among the first to incorporate a comprehensive climate-control system.

• Supreme Court - Enjoy a narrated tour of the US Supreme Court with a live guide who will share the history of the high court along with key cases and facts.

NOTE: During the Government Shutdown, this tour will only visit the building’s exterior.

• Capitol Hill - A 3-hour morning guided walking tour through Capitol Hill.

• Waking: There will be standing and walking during this tour. Please wear comfortable shoes and dress for the weather as much of the tour is outdoors. DC can be very hot in the summer and cold in the winter. Umbrellas and layers are recommended.
