Wolf’s Lair was the most significant of Hitler’s headquarters, concealed in Masuria, a region in Northern Poland renowned for its 2,000 lakes. It was an ideal location for an inaccessible bunker complex, with lakes and swamps providing natural barriers. This complex, one of several Führer Headquarters across occupied Europe, was constructed for the launch of Operation Barbarossa – the invasion of the Soviet Union – in 1941. The top-secret, high-security site was situated in the Masurian woods, about 8 km from the small East Prussian town of Rastenburg (now Kętrzyn in Poland). Three security zones encircled the central complex where the Führer’s bunker was located. Despite the security, an assassination attempt on Hitler occurred at Wolf’s Lair on July 20, 1944. On January 25, 1945, due to the rapid advance of the Red Army, the complex was demolished and abandoned.

• Gierloz - There is a fantastic eatery in the former guard’s garage where traditional Polish cuisine is served. Taking a 1-hour break to enjoy a meal before the return drive to Warsaw is recommended. Please note that food is not included in the tour price.
• Wolf’s Lair - Zone II was utilized by officers from the Luftwaffe, Kriegsmarine, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Organization Todt. The largest bunker in the entire complex is located here, along with many details absent in Zone I. This section of the Wolf’s Lair is not part of the official museum; the buildings are simply abandoned in the woods.
