Warsaw, having been completely destroyed twice in its 700-year history, is now a fascinating mosaic of various shapes and styles. This tour will guide you through the diverse elements of this mosaic and show you how they fit together.
AREA COVERED: Southern part of the historical center + the communist area.
The first half of the tour covers the Royal Route, Warsaw’s most elegant street. In the 17th and 18th centuries, wealthy noblemen built their luxurious residences here, and powerful religious orders constructed their baroque churches. In the 19th century, Chopin lived here, and Marie Curie studied here. This street has also been the site of significant events in Polish post-war history.
In the second half of the tour, you will explore the 20th-century city center, featuring Warsaw’s most iconic building: the Palace of Culture. This famous gift from Stalin to the People’s Republic of Poland was intended to reshape Warsaw’s historical city center and provide a new communist identity for the city.
- In case of a mass event such as parade/protest/concert happening at our usual meeting point (Sigismund’s Column), the tour will be starting from beneath the red-brick medieval defensive wall situated 100 meters north of the Column.
- The price of ~3 EUR covers the booking handling fee and insurance not the guide’s remuneration. Feel free to tip your guide for the guiding service.
