- Lawrence’s Spring - This spring is located at the top of a short climb, near a fig tree, approximately 2km (1.2 miles) southwest of the village of Rum. It is named after Lawrence’s vivid description in the Seven Pillars of Wisdom: ‘’In front of us a path, pale with use, zigzagged up the cliff-plinth…From between [the] trees, in hidden crannies of…
- Lawrence’s Spring - This spring is located at the top of a short climb, near a fig tree, approximately 2km (1.2 miles) southwest of the village of Rum. It is named after Lawrence’s vivid description in the Seven Pillars of Wisdom: ‘’In front of us a path, pale with use, zigzagged up the cliff-plinth…From between [the] trees, in hidden crannies of the rock, issued strange cries; the echoes, turned into music, of the voices of the Arabs watering camels at the springs which flowed out three hundred feet above ground’’. While the pool itself is mostly unimpressive, being a stagnant puddle, the views across the desert are absolutely breathtaking.
- Al Ramal Red Sand Dune - Among the vast stretches of rust-colored sand in the Wadi Rum desert, the Red Sand Dune, or ‘Al Hasany’ in Arabic, is one of the most renowned. Officially called Al Ramal, it is more commonly known by its descriptive name. It stands out against a cliffside as if it is part of the mountain. Colored red by iron oxide, this dune is fine and soft underfoot, making it ideal for walking barefoot!
- Khazali Canyon - Khazali Canyon in Wadi Rum is home to petroglyphs etched into the cave walls depicting humans and antelopes from the Thamudic era. This narrow canyon features numerous Nabataean rock carvings of people and animals. Jebel Khazali, a peak located in the center of Wadi Rum Protected Area, opens up into a narrow fissure about 100 meters long. Its inner walls are adorned with Thamudic, Nabataean, and Islamic inscriptions, as well as petroglyphs depicting humans and animals. Noteworthy are the soles of feet petroglyphs, which likely held religious significance. In 1932, French epigraphist Savignac documented the engravings in the cleft and published some in 1934. The petroglyphs and inscriptions of Khazali Siq form an impressive collection, being one of the major tourist attractions in Wadi Rum. At the end of the canyon, there are several man-made rock-cut basins for water collection.
- Wadi Rum Protected Area - Little Rock Bridge: This bridge is easy to climb and offers stunning views across a wide expanse of desert. It is easily accessible and not dangerous, making it perfect for families with children and those who are less comfortable with heights.
- Lawrence’s House - It is uncertain if this was indeed Lawrence’s house, though stories suggest he stayed and/or stored weapons here. The current structure is built on the remains of a Nabataean building, and it is another beautiful spot in the desert. There is little left of this building, erected on the Nabataean ruins of a water cistern. Nonetheless, legend has it that Lawrence stayed here during the Arab Revolt, making it a must-see on the regular 4WD circuits of the area. Near the building is a Nabataean inscription that mentions the area’s ancient name of Iram. The remote location and uninterrupted view of the red sand dunes are the main attractions.
- Wadi Rum Protected Area - Stop for lunch (Gallaya, Hummus, Tuna, Salad, Jordanian bread, Juice).
- Mushroom Rock - Nature sometimes performs small miracles, and one of them is the Mushroom Rock. Over the centuries, rain and winds have sculpted this sandstone into the shape of a mushroom.
- Um Frouth Rock Arch - The largest of Rum’s three arches is the Burdah Rock Bridge, precariously perched about 80 meters above the surrounding rock. There’s a steep hike to the summit. Its height and location offer one of the most incredible sunsets you will ever witness.
- Wadi Rum Protected Area - Abu Khashaba Canyon: Wild fig trees and desert bushes among huge rocks and red and yellow sand make this canyon unique. Abu Khashaba Canyon is one of the canyons worth visiting, and it takes about an hour to walk through.
- Um Frouth Rock Arch - A lower rock bridge featured on many tours and can be easily climbed onto. The climb takes 5-15 minutes (depending on your experience), and the view it offers of the surrounding area is amazing.
