Setting Sail to the Blue Cave

The anticipation was palpable as I stood at the Matejuška pier near the Riva Harbor, ready to embark on the Blue Cave and Hvar Tour. As a marine biologist, the allure of the ocean is irresistible, and this tour promised a blend of natural wonders and cinematic nostalgia. Our small group of twelve was greeted by Ella, our skilled captain, whose expertise in navigating the speedboat was immediately apparent. The journey to the Blue Cave was exhilarating, the speedboat slicing through the Adriatic Sea with ease. Upon arrival, we seamlessly transitioned to a smaller boat, bypassing the usual queues. The Blue Cave itself was a spectacle beyond words, its azure waters shimmering with an ethereal glow. Though our time inside was brief, the memory of its beauty lingered long after we departed. As we continued our journey, the sight of “boat garages”—natural rock formations carved into the cliffs—added an unexpected layer of intrigue to our tour.

Island Hopping and Cinematic Delights

Our next stop was the charming fishermen’s village of Komiža on the island of Vis. Here, we indulged in a leisurely stroll, savoring a crepe as we soaked in the village’s rustic charm. The tour’s “Mamma Mia” theme was a delightful touch, with each location offering a glimpse into the film’s enchanting world. Stiniva Cove, accessible only by sea, was a highlight, its secluded beach inviting us for a refreshing swim.

The Blue Lagoon on Budikovac Island was another gem, its crystal-clear waters perfect for a rejuvenating dip. While snorkeling wasn’t the main attraction here, the lagoon’s serene beauty was more than enough to captivate our senses. As we basked in the sun, a friendly donkey from a nearby beach bar added a touch of whimsy to our visit.

Exploring Hvar’s Historic Charm

Our final destination was the picturesque town of Hvar, where we were given ample time to explore at our own pace. The town’s vibrant atmosphere was infectious, and we relished the opportunity to wander its cobblestone streets. A leisurely lunch at a recommended restaurant was a culinary delight, complete with complimentary limoncello and a generous discount.

The climb to the fortress was well worth the effort, rewarding us with panoramic views of Hvar and the surrounding Pakleni Islands. As the day drew to a close, we returned to Split, our hearts full of the day’s adventures.
