Fun and educational day trip from Cartagena- highly recommend! - Alejandro went above and beyond to give us an amazing and unique experience we won’t forget. It’s a very cool mix of adventure plus education. We participated training parrots to be released into the wild, rode horses, took an ATV tour, met local farmers, and were served delicious refreshments. We were extremely impressed with all the tour guides. They were very interesting to talk to, friendly, patient, and great with kids. Also they simplified logistics by providing transportation both ways to and from Cartagena. This day trip exceeded expectations and gave us new insights into both animal protection and farming around Cartagena. Thank you so much!

Great eco day out - Fantastic day out. Not sure about UTV thrills. This was more of an eco/nature visit to a bird sanctuary with some horse riding. So don’t choose it for adrenaline pumping thrills. Do choose it for a beautiful day out with nature in a different world to downtown Cartagena. We were picked up from our hotel and driven for about an hour to the sanctuary where we were given a small breakfast. We were then taken to join in the feeding of the birds in the aviaries. The birds were parrots and macaws that have been rescued and are being rehabilitated. I’m not a great bird fan generally but getting up close and personal in the middle of a load of these was stunning. I could have watched them for hours. After that we chose some plants to be planted, and then saddled up for a horse ride. I’m pretty much a novice rider but felt very safe. The horses were very responsive. We rode through the countryside to where the birds are released where we planned our plants. We then got back on the horses to head back to base for some fruit before the taxi back. A very different and very rewarding day out, with great guides with good English. Highly recommended

Wonderful horse riding day trip to rural parrot conservation centre. - We wanted to go horse riding somewhere near Cartagena and initially passed over this trip as it was an hours drive from the hotel and we weren’t particularly attracted by the jeep ride. I’m so glad we went for it though. The parrot, macaw and ecological aspects of the trip were very interesting and great fun. We enjoyed planting trees, harvesting yucca and feeding the parrots very much. I was initially worried that the horses (some of them ex polo ponies) would be too small for us. Our guide assured us that they were very strong and the horses were obviously happy, well cared for and keen to carry us at a canter at every opportunity. The horses are beautiful very obedient and lovely in every way. The included taxi ride from the hotel along the coast, through farmland and several rural villages and small towns was also interesting and a good way of seeing beyond the city. Water, fruit, juice, coffee and light cooked snacks were provided which were very welcome as the Fundacion like you to start out early in the morning. We left the hotel at 8.45 am and returned at about 3.00 but they would have preferred to start at 7.00 to be cooler and see more animals. The jeep ride is more of a wild animal viewing safari than a thrill ride and this was definitely our preference. I highly recommend this tour and thought it was very good value.

Awesome experience - This was a great tour! We wanted to start the tour around 8-9 am but the guides suggested 7 am start as we could see more animals while it's not that hot. We were picked up on time and drove about 1 hour+ to the preserve. There we were treated to a quick breakfast - eggs, cheese, yuka, milk/coffee/water and after that Paulina explained us about the goal of the preserve, how they save animals and teach them to live in the wild. We got to see macaws and other species of parrots up close. Alberto drove us in UTV to the forest where we could see monkeys, also pretty close. Then we got to ride horses up and down the hills. It was our first time riding horses and it was pretty easy after the instructions, it was fun! We got to see a few other types of monkeys from a far, drove back to starting point in UTV, had some fruits for lunch, and each of us planted a tree! Overall a great experience, one of the highlights of our trip to Colombia! Hosts were very friendly, Paulina spoke great in English, she answered all our questions. This organization does a great job saving the animals. We highly recommend this experience.

Unique Adventure Outside of Cartagena! - We had a wonderful experience at Fundacion Loros! Overall the experience was incredible, it was adventurous, fun, educational, and really teaches you the importance of conversation while learning more about local Colombian culture. The entire experience last around 4-5 hours. We were picked up in a private Taxi, drove for about an hour and arrived at the foundation where we were greeted by the staff and they guided us to a table outside to enjoy the delicious breakfast that they made for us. After that we put on some rain boots that the foundation provided, and went to go see and meet the birds and monkeys that they were helping rehabilitate. The team at the foundation drove us around in a four seater ATV. After seeing the animals in the ground level, we went horse back riding up a mountain. The horseback riding experience is an adventure! It’s not like a typical tourist attraction where you go up a carved path, we went up and down a mountain for about 30-45minutes to reach the top. The views were stunning and it’s a once in a lifetime experience. The foundation has guides in English and Spanish. They were very knowledgeable and kind. If you’re in Cartagena and have a free day, I’d highly recommend this experience!

Parrot fun in the jungle - This tour was amazing! We were able to get very close to the parrots, and even the monkeys. The horseback ride was a thrill, and went through a beautiful part of the preserve (the whole place was lush and gorgeous). The horseback ride led to another part of the preserve where we saw more parrots; the atv ride was also fun, and we got to pick our own papayas (that we got to take home - other snacks were provided) and pick a plane to plant. Overall, I went with two friends and we all had a blast; it exceeded our expectations and I would recommend it to anyone who is the least bit adventurous.
