• Torre dos Clérigos - Designed by the Italian architect Nicolau Nasoni, the Clérigos Tower stands over 75 meters tall and was completed in 1763. Originally intended as a bell tower, it also served as a landmark for ships and a strategic military point. Visitors can climb 225 steps to the top for breathtaking views of Porto and Gaia.
• Ponte de Dom Luís I - This metal bridge, featuring two decks, was constructed between 1881 and 1886, linking Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia across the Douro River.
• Cais da Ribeira - A visit to Ribeira is essential. It is the most beautiful and vibrant postcard of the city, full of color, life, and history. Discover its charm!
• Mosteiro da Serra do Pilar - The Serra do Pilar Monastery is a 17th-century church recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1996. The church, a National Monument, is notable for its circular design, topped with a grand hemispherical dome, surrounded by a balcony and crowned with a lantern. Inside, the gilded and white carvings are remarkable. It also features a stunning cloister, also a National Monument, with a circular vault supported by 36 Ionic columns. This Mannerist monastery is unique in Portugal, with both the church and cloister having circular plans, a design borrowed from civil architecture. Its strategic location was vital during the Napoleonic invasions in 1809 and the liberal wars of 1832-33, serving as a military base. It was later converted into a military barracks.
• Ponte D. Maria Pia - The D. Maria Pia Bridge is a railway structure that once carried the Northern Line over the Douro River between Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia. Inaugurated on November 4, 1877, and closed on June 24, 1991, it was replaced by the Ponte de São João. It is considered one of the greatest works by engineer Gustave Eiffel, alongside the Garabit Viaduct. At its inauguration, it boasted the largest iron arch in the world and has been a National Monument since 1982.
• Miradouro Reserva Natural Estuário do Douro - Spanning 66.35 hectares, the Douro Estuary Local Nature Reserve is situated on the south bank of the river’s mouth, near the fishing village of Afurada. It includes Cabedelo and São Paio bay, featuring a salt marsh. The reserve is renowned for its birdlife, which can be easily observed as it lies on the “East Atlantic Route” migratory path.
