Imperial Treasury (Schatzkammer) – A Must-See for History Fans - The Imperial Treasury is full of breathtaking exhibits from both secular and religious history. Highlights include the Holy Lance, the Veil of Veronica, and the world’s largest cut emerald. A fascinating and impressive collection that gives great insight into the power and symbolism of the Habsburg dynasty.

Mind-boggling collection! - I will review only the Imperial Treasury and skip the Art History Museum. A visit to Hofburg wouldn't be complete without going to the Imperial Treasury. On display is a magnificent collection of crowns, scepters, imperial vestments, royal paraphernalia, religious items, and much more. It's a glimpse into the extravagant life of Austrian royalty especially when its members carry out official functions. However, I have some serious doubts as to the authenticity of the relics in the collection (like pieces of Jesus' swaddling clothes and of the table cover used during the Last Supper, etc.) which supposedly serves to demonstrate how pious and devoted the Habsburgs were. At any rate, also on display are vestments and other items used by imperial officials. This is one museum you should never miss when you visit Hofburg!

PLAN A HEAD AND SAVE - Purchase your tickets in advance to avoid a 10-20min wait. The 7 museum pass for friends and family for 90€ is your best option.

They should carry water... - They should carry water and wear comfortable shoes. I was happy to see the cleanliness of the place.

Make sure you join the right queue! - Confusing system. Instructions is unclear about how you get your ticket. Go to the museum and join the queue for “Voucher” or “Group Priority”, do not join the “Ticket” queue which is what we did for an hour only to be told to re-queue. Once you get your tickets, it should be a combi/joint ticket so you can use them at both venues. Eg: if you started at the museum, you can use the same ticket at the imperial treasury and vice versa. It’s not “skip the queue” but it is a shorter line for voucher / group priority.

Better instructions needed to get in.... - The lower rating is for the experience with the "ticket" from TripAdvisor. What you have is a voucher that you then need to go and stand in line once you arrive at the outside ticket booths and let them scan it to give you "tickets" that you can actually use to enter the museum. If you try and go straight in to the museum they will tell you this and send you outside to exchange it. No problem....just wish TripAdvisor was more clear when they sent it as this is not hard to explain. The museum itself is pretty impressive and the architecture of the building alone is incredible.
