Where psychoanalysis all began - The tour guide was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about his subject. While I thought I knew quite a bit about Freud & his work before I went, I came away with a deeper understanding about both - Freud & his work. It was especially helpful to be given the detail about multiple generations of Freud’s family origins. The apartment itself was delightful, and the plans showing the room layouts over time, for both Freud’s & Ann’s use, were fascinating.

Big recommend - Loved this museum! Actually had no idea it is situated in Sigmund Freud's actual Vienna residence, was very surprised and excited by this. Big recommend for people interested in history of this legend and how he (and his family) actually lived.

Inspired by “more” - As a medical doctor, a MyCafé for me and for my husband as a non-medical doctor, so interesting that he wants to read a biography after visiting the Sigmund Freud Museum.
Although the rooms contain almost no furniture anymore, the exhibition is so well prepared that you can understand enough information and also with photography how the family was happy then and Sigmund Freud lived and worked.
For me and my husband this was a highlight in Vienna and really worth seeing.
impressive also Schönbrunn and the Hofburg was this museum is several times more informative. I felt like I was going back in time and could see Freud sitting at his desk.

Well worth a visit - It was interesting reading other reviews and then to meet a Master‘s student at the museum who was interested in the possible tension between museum as entertainment or infotainment and museum as true representation of facts. There are very few artefacts from Sigmund Freud‘s life but that is to be expected given he had to leave Austria in 1938.
There are artefacts from his daughter‘s work. The apartments layout was kept as it was and each room‘s function was explained … lots rooms and nooks and crannies. There is a plethora of Information … you can pick and choose what you want to read in detail. We certainly left the museum with more insight into his and Anna‘s work, struggles and successes… a really interesting hour or so.
Note that about 10 minutes walk away is the impressive Strudelhofstiege … an imposing staircase - worth a detour.

Fascinating and accessible - Fascinating insight into the life and work of Freud and his family. As a non-specialist on psychotherapy, I found the museum accessible and really interesting. Also, a great insight into middle class life in Vienna at that time and the impact of the Shoah on Vienna’s Jewish community

4/5 – Fascinating and Insightful, but a Bit Crowded - The Sigmund Freud Museum in Vienna offers a compelling and immersive experience into the life and work of the father of psychoanalysis. Housed in Freud’s preserved apartment and consulting rooms—complete with his famous couch, Persian carpets, and extensive antiquities—it truly felt like stepping into his world and provided a vivid sense of his daily life. The exhibits are both rich and informative, covering his personal journey, theoretical breakthroughs, and the turbulent historical context in which he lived . What stood out: Freud’s preserved study, with its “hoarder‑like” array of antiquities, gives a truly authentic glimpse into his inspirations and working environment. What could be improved:
The museum was quite crowded, and we encountered several groups of students who were speaking loudly and moving through without any apparent museum staff oversight. At times, the noise and lack of control somewhat detracted from the contemplative atmosphere. I believe stronger crowd management, particularly for educational groups, would enhance the experience. Overall: A highly educational and visually stimulating visit that makes Freud’s world come alive. With a few small improvements to crowd control, this museum would earn a full five-star rating. Highly recommended for anyone interested in psychology, history, or early 20th‑century Vienna.

Worth a visit! - This is a really interesting museum and not just for fans of psychology. Vienna is full of royal palaces and grand art museums so it's nice to see a normal Viennese house as it was.
The museum was full of interesting objects and stories from his life, including when he had to flee to London.
Really recommend a visit to anyone when they come to Vienna.

Good museum, lacking research methods/practice info - A really good museum that we throughly enjoyed visiting. It provided a good overview of Freud’s life. However, we would have also loved to have learnt about Freud’s methods and actual practices. Whilst there was a little info about this interwoven in some of the descriptions plaques, it would have been good if this was more in-depth and informative. For me, my interests lie in the scientific practice of psychoanalysis, which I felt was lacking from the museum.

It's not worth it. - I was hoping to find the armed house where Freud lived and I only found display cases with information I can read on the internet. It's not worth it.
