Its name is derived from the nearby Kahlenberg, although interestingly, the hill now known as Leopoldsberg was originally called Kahlenberg until 1693.
  The village has a rich history in viticulture, with wine production dating back over 2,500 years, starting with Celtic settlers. Monasteries and noble families once owned vineyards here, and the area was even mined for silver in the 16th century — although those deposits were short-lived.
