Brilliant tour. - Great little alternative to the Doge's Palace, just on the opposite side of the bridge. The Prison Palace is where the 'new' prison was built as the Doge's side was not enough. You don't get to go on the Bridge of Sighs with the tour we had. We opted for the guided tour, called "Lords of the Night Prisons Palace: Cells and torture tools." It was such a good tour, really nicely run, informative, and ended up just being the two of us, so was like a private tour! We were told the history of the prison, given a tour of the cells and some great info. The tour was around 45 minutes long, and then we could explore at our leisure, which gave us time to read the information and look at anything not covered in the tour. It is definitely not for those who don't want to know about some of the more gruesome elements of life in medieval times, i.e. imprisonment cells, tools of interrogation, torture, and sometimes execution. We bought tickets 24 hours in advance, but there was no queue anyway, it was really empty, definitely somewhere that is missed because everyone goes to the other side of the bridge, where there was a huge queue. Lots of stairs and some uneven flooring in places. This review is also on Google with Viator referenced.

You should do this tour - Really good tour. Just the right length of time for children. The tour guide (sorry forgotten her name!) was really good and informative. Far more interesting than going in alone.

Hidden Gem. - Our tour guide was Marco. Very pleasant gentleman and very knowledgeable. Hidden gem in Venice and highly recommended. Gives an insight into life and law for ordinary people but extremely gruesome at the same time. Should book this tour. You won't be disappointed.

A learning experience! - Go early and you could be the only people in the group and it's your own private tour. Very interesting things learned along the tour! Some of the things considered crimes make your jaw drop!

Waste of time - Guide informative but hard to hear as very quietly spoken and hard to understand with her strong accent. Didn't learn or see as much as expected.

The tour was good. A lot... - The tour was good. A lot of additional details and information provided by the guide. Charge for the tour was MORE using Viator than it would have been if we purchased at the door though (15 Euros vs 15.75 Euros). No discount with Viator.

Interesting excursion,... - Interesting excursion, but no need to pay extra for the guided tour. You can just go to the front door and pay the basic entrance fee to get just as much out of it without the guide.

Tour guide - Went there 10 minutes before the tour started. I asked the lady on the desk to go in. She said to wait outside and the tour guide will come to call me in. Waited over 30 minutes - no one came!! Do not recommend.

A MISSED OPPORTUNITY - Sadly, no representative from the tour showed. We asked each tour company if they were a part of this tour displaying the printed copy of confirmation.. Each said no. Verified we were in the correct spot and took photos. If there was a change of location or time, we were not informed. We have used VIATOR many times successfully and will continue to do so as their tours are great. I'm sure VIATOR will handle this in a professional manner and encouage visitors to experience this most interesting venue.
