- Teatro La Fenice - In the late 18th century, Venice boasted seven historic theaters, two for theatrical performances and the rest for musical showcases. Among these, the Teatro San Benedetto was the epitome of luxury, located near Campo San Luca. Founded in 1755 by the visionary Grimani family, it later came under the ownership of the Noble Society of Boxholders. A twist of fate, through a judicial agreement in 1787, led to the society’s eviction, forcing them to relinquish the theater to the Venier nobles, who owned the land. Faced with this challenge, the society embarked on an ambitious project to build a new, more splendid theater, named the Gran Teatro La Fenice, reminiscent of the mythical, ever-regenerating bird from Herodotus’ Histories.
- Ponte de le Ostreghe - Traces of past horticultural activities or lush vegetation are etched into the city’s toponymic fabric, appearing across various urban corners. Among these remnants are the campi, campazzi, and grass-covered courtyards, as well as the calluses of fig trees.
The earliest recorded mention of the Rio dell’Alboro dates back to 1696, while the Rio de le Ostreghe appears in the following century. It is likely that a vendor of these delectable marine treasures once operated nearby. The cultivation of such seafood saw significant growth, particularly in the early 19th century, leaving a lasting mark, as exemplified by the ostregheri canal, now known as the Canale dei Lavraneri, in the Sacca Fisola district.
