A trip to Venice is incomplete without exploring its rich and captivating history as the world’s oldest republic. Venture beyond the usual path by going behind the scenes at the Doge’s Palace to discover the secret archives, offices, torture chambers, and the palace attic, which houses high-security prison cells, including the one that held the legendary Casanova! The tour price also includes tickets to Ca’ Rezzonico, the magnificent Baroque palace where Casanova resided in 1756, allowing you to leisurely explore its opulent halls.
- Due to Doge’s Palace regulations, children under the age of 6 are not permitted inside the secret itineraries and therefore cannot take this tour.
- Unfortunately due to the nature of this tour it is not suitable for guests with mobility impairments or with wheelchairs, or strollers.
- All guests (including children) must bring ID on the day of their tour.
- No refund will be provided if high tide prevents certain parts of the tour, but adjustments to the route will be made for client safety and comfort.
- If access is restricted due to private events inside the Doge’s Palace, we cannot be held responsible. This is a situation beyond our control. No refund will be issued.
- This tour is not suitable for people who are claustrophobic.
- This tour is in English.
- This is a walking tour. Guests should be able to walk at a moderate pace without difficulty.
- Guests should be prepared for a moderate level of physical activity, including standing for extended periods and climbing stairs, which may not be suitable for travelers with certain health conditions or mobility limitations.
- Please note that the museum is closed on Tuesday; on these days, you will receive the ticket for the next days

Please arrive 15 minutes prior to the start of your tour, your guide will be holding a green Walks sign. This tour meets at Correr Museum in Piazza San Marco 52. Your guide will be waiting under the portico just outside the entrance of the museum.

Doge's Palace behind the scene tour - We had an excellent tour jam packed with stories and historical information. Georgia, our enthusiastic and very knowlegable guide was wonderful and easy to understand. The tour includes lots of narrow stairs throughout the prisons and back rooms of the palace, but all have secure handrails. An excellent tour!

An absolute must do! - Susan was an absolutely superb guide for the English version of the tour. She was knowledgable, knew how to connect with her tour group, and shared insightful and fascinating facts even on the walk to the palace and in between rooms. This behind the scenes access was well worth it, as for most of the tour we weren’t running into other tour groups or general admission. Once we got into the normal access spots, it was crowded and a little difficult to navigate. If coming during the warmer months, definitely book the morning so you can get into the attic while it’s comfortable - that’s where the armor and weapons were! Definitely not a good tour for anyone not fully physically able or who is extremely claustrophobic as there are lots of stairs and some tight spaces. And I recommend brining water with you - it’s a lot of steps in a pretty warm building (toured in early June) with no access to water until you exit at the gift shop/cafe.

This is a must do. I’ve... - This is a must do. I’ve toured the Doges Palace a few times. An interesting layer was added with the behind the scenes from stories of various prisoners to seeing supports to hold the ceiling.

Great tour in Venice - Very interesting tour. If you’re going in summer, remember the palace and jail are not air conditioned, so be prepared to be hot! There are 100 stairs to climb at one point. We were fine but noticed others were uncomfortable. Very cool history of the palace, Doges, and Casanova’s experience as a prisoner. Definitely worth checking out!
