Challenging and... - Challenging and exhilarating! I loved this excursion (female, 48, former athlete), but would warn anyone with ankle injuries this might be a risk. The hikes both down and back up to the pool dives are narrow, have slippery exposed tree roots, and require hanging onto trailside trees to maintain balance. Our 2 tour guides were very helpful and explained how to navigate the trail at every turn. If you want to take pics, you'll need a waterproof phone lanyard because you will be jumping off cliffs, cave swimming, or watching your kids jump off cliffs while you're treading water or finding a rock to rest on most of the time. If you're not a strong swimmer, they do offer vests. Only complaint is that the hosts promised to send video links of us diving (they shot vids of all of us via phone), but we did not receive, even after a request to send them.

Here’s Your Nudge - Book It! - For the New Year 2026, I decided to return to Puerto Rico! I had such a memorable time there on previous visits, so without hesitation, I booked this tour to come back to the beautiful river and caves of Charco Azul!
Jean took us on dirt trails lined with trees, guided us on how to safely climb up and over boulders, how to carefully cross through waterways, where to safely plunge while on our first, small cliff-jump, and then lit the way as we swam with life-vests into a cave.
There was a couple (non-swimmers) that needed help getting through the cave. Jean assured their safety and calmed their nerves before taking it upon himself to swim backwards while holding both people by the tops of their life-vests and pulling them through the entire cave waterway! He checked-in with them often as they traveled laying on their backs, ultimately getting through with care while we all swam alongside as a group. That was dedication as a guide, and quite impressive to witness! I bet it was a workout for him!
When we got to the other side, there was a gorgeous waterfall dripping at the opening of the cave, with Nature’s light and trail vegetation serving as a perfect back-drop! A picturesque moment!
We climbed up fallen tree logs thereafter, up more rock boulders, and then walked through a shallow riverbed and took a snack break there. Jean surprised us with a variety of snacks and refreshments, beautifully laid-out on a decorated table. We had the option to chill there or go with him a short way down to the cave area where we could cliff-jump (optional) or hang out and watch others jump. It was a majestic sight to see, with turquoise blue waters aligning the bottom of the cave!
While up there, Jean clearly explained how to safely cliff jump, and stood next to each person as we prepared for the jump.
The entire trip was full of positive Energy, with Jean leading the way! It gave me incredible Peace of Mind to know Jean is very knowledgeable and familiar with the area, vigilant, and attuned to the various emotions that came up for people as they navigated through Nature and faced fears and anxiety while doing some activities for the first time.
Jean regularly monitored the group’s pace, looking back often and helping us along the way. He advised us of certain branches to hold onto when passing, areas in which to step, and provided instructions on proper hand placement on boulders to ensure a safe climb.
This trip definitely was a Life-changing and memorable experience that provided me the opportunity to seek discomfort and overcome fear. Now, I’m like, “Let’s gooooo!!!” Here’s your nudge! Book it! :)

Wonderful! The highlight of our trip. Beautiful, challenging, and rewarding. - I cannot recommend this tour highly enough! It was so very personalized and personal, like being invited to someone’s house for Thanksgiving and meeting the family., except it was caves and river. It absolutely felt like a tour that someone would give his best friends, not in any way like a corporate tour. John was not only knowledgeable and very communicative, but he also has an ebullient personality and is an amazing host. He made the tour SO FUN.
Be forewarned: you should be in good physical condition to do this. There is a lot of climbing and some parts feel precarious (although you wouldn’t know it from the way Jon leaps around like a mountain goat!). Wear protective footwear with good traction that you can swim in. John was also amazingly accommodating and helpful to those in the tour who were less physically able and required more help.
Absolutely money well spent. The highlight of our trip here, without a doubt.
John, you rock!! Thank you.

Going under the cave and drinking the fresh water from the leaf - Shmooel was so great, explained things to us throughout and just made it fun in general. He took his time for people, and didn’t pressure anyone of anything.

Very strenuous activity... - Very strenuous activity which was not clearly indicated in the post. Slippery, steep and uneven path to waterfalls esp with rain. Bring a walking stick if you have one. Life jackets not well fitting and got pushed up and over my MIL’s head when jumping in the first time. This tour group uses personal vehicles for transportation and they had car issues the morning we went. They had to arrange another driver but still had us back at our cruise boat on time so appreciated the attention to that detail. The waterfalls are beautiful and as long as you know about the difficulty of the hike it is totally worth it.

Well, it was an adventure. - Chaco Azul is in the rain forest. It is remote with no cell service (important fact). Our family of three and twelve others were on the tour 12/21/24. It was a large group of 15 with several mediocre swimmers and about 5 teenagers. Three guides, Edward, Fabiola, and John (?) were with us. All of them very nice. They outfitted us all with lifejackets and suggested we all leave our phones in their cars as they would take pictures, The hike, swimming in the waters, and caves were awesome. Halfway, a heavy down pour with thunder and lightening came through for 20 minutes. The rain stopped and the last third of the trip was cliff diving. As our group was finishing up and about to swim back we heard a tremendous noise. It was a flash flood. Our guides quickly got us to higher ground as the torrential rapids with logs and debris came through. We sat in a safe area for almost 4 hours wet, tired, cold, hungry - but safe while it passed. Had the flood arrived one minute later- all 15 of us would have been swept up in the flood. The guides were comforting and kept us calm. Where things go wrong is the ZERO preparation for such problem. There is no cell service. No way outsiders to know anything was wrong. Guides did not have walkie talkies, satellite phone, or contingency plans. So grateful no one was injured, had a heart attacked or diabetic shock. There was no way to get out and get help. For all the years and years of experience the guides had, this was poor planning on their part and could have had very real and very dangerous consequences. The only reason people came to look for us is that serval hours passed after we were supposed to be back. The nature was awesome. This companies safety protocols - minimal. Up until the flood I would not have hesitated to give this a 5 star review, but given the lack of safety protocols or plans I cannot recommend this tour.

Terrible customer service - I booked a tour and met at the pick up location 30 minutes prior once I arrived I attempted to call the agency but they do not respond. Few minutes later they reached out mentioning I had canceled the trip yesterday at 10pm when the reservation was in fact made at 10:58pm which couldn’t be possible. When attempting to ask if they would still be able to do the tour I was given the run around and I just tried asking if they can do today given I departed the following day and I was responded with they can try but I was being rude and they would not feel comfortable. I explained I was not being rude and apologized if that’s how it came off, but simply was trying to ask questions so I can plan accordingly. We left off that they would reach out back 40 mins later I tried calling again to not receive any call back or answer.
