• Locarno Park - Ahead is Locarno Beach, ideal for a serene retreat. This beach is legally quiet! Amplified sound is prohibited, so don’t expect many beach parties here. Park in any of the upcoming lots if you wish to visit, or continue driving.

• Spanish Banks Beach Park - This is the most expansive beach in the Vancouver area. Its sandy shores extend a mile along the far western edge of Vancouver City. Due to its proximity to the University of British Columbia, the beach attracts college students seeking a break from studies, as well as other adventurous individuals looking for good waves.

• University of British Columbia - We are heading towards the University of British Columbia. In many ways, the history of Vancouver’s largest university reflects the story of the city itself, particularly in terms of the university’s relationship with First Nations people.

• Nitobe Memorial Garden - Look to our left for the traditional Japanese garden as we pass. This is Nitobe Memorial Garden, and calling it a Japanese garden is not just a formality. When Japan’s 125th emperor, Akihito, visited the garden in 2009, he reportedly said, “I am in Japan” due to the garden’s authenticity.

• UBC Botanical Garden & Centre for Plant Research - This brings us to the end of our tour at the UBC Botanical Garden.
